LETTERS, FAXES AND E-MAILS TO THE EDITOR (Star-Telegram)
Veterans against Murtha
Jim Wright and other Democrats have been bemoaning a potential "Swift-boating" of Democratic Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania. (See Sunday commentary "Another casualty of war.")
Beautiful poetry aside, let's set the record straight. In 2004, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth provided a tremendous service by exposing the disgraceful Vietnam War conduct of John Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee. I happily donated to their cause and would proudly join them again in defense of our nation's military.
But that stellar organization isn't involved with the planned Oct. 1 rally in Johnstown, Pa., where our group, Vets for the Truth (VFTT), intends to call out Murtha for his horrendous pronouncement of guilt regarding the "Haditha Marines." (See Aug. 14 news story "Veterans taking aim at war critic.")
Additionally, many hawkish, decorated combat veterans vehemently disagree with the supposedly authoritative voice of Murtha, who incessantly belittles our military's mission, accomplishments and vital presence in our war on terror.
VFTT members have not served in Swift boats, but all have worn our country's uniforms proudly. And we've earned the right to speak out, with or without the approval of Murtha's groupies.

He referred specifically to the Swift boat veterans, noting that in 2004 they spent "millions of somebody's dollars" impugning John Kerry's patriotism and that they're at it again, this time with a "new bag of money" that'll be used to discredit John Murtha because of his get-out-of-Iraq stance.
One could argue that Kerry and Murtha are self-appointed jihadist allies and that they and their supporters are contributing to national disunity. These get-out-of-Iraq folks have access to millions of dollars supplied by Moveon.org, George Soros and others.
Who can deny that they're trying to discredit the Swifties and others who support the war?

I still have people say all the time, "What if Murtha's accusations were correct?" They don't understand his complete violation of our presumption of innocence clause.
Niiiiice!
I'll be in IZ and miss the get together.
Thanks. Please help us spread the word before you depart, especially amongst your short-haired buddies. :)
I personally don't think any of them are guilty. I can see one, maybe two people melting down in the heat of the moment. But eight? No way. And since the first investigation has already concluded that there was no cover-up, I think that bodes well for them. But of course I still worry a great deal about their fate, especially since their chances of a fair trial (court martial) have been adversely impacted.
With Murtha's position on Armed Services and it's Appropriations Committee, he engaged in serious command influence.
If any of these guys are convicted, I will NEVER be able to believe that they were actually guilty.
Indeed.
fwiw, our prep school alumni assn has a PRAYER TOWER to pray for our troops. we believe our efforts are worthwhile.

That was fast!
Is that Candice's mother there?
Don't know! The only one I am real familiar with is Charley.

It is great that they had the integrity as you indicated, to publisize your letter. Once the military court drops the case for lack of any real evidence of wrong doing, Murtha is going to be up to his eyebrows in the brown stuff.
I hope you're right. But the man's already been caught in several lies, and it hasn't even slowed him down. I just don't share your optimism. I think the only way the SOB pays for what he's done is if he's humiliated by Irey and friends on November 7th.
Good show Marine. The paper came through. Hopefully their readership will be better informed, based on their writing.
Please be sure and advertise the Boot Murtha rally and efforts to all your Marine and military-friendly contacts.
