Another war raging at home(Cal Thomas)
Lawrence(Kansas) Journal ^ | August 25, 2006 | Cal Thomas

Posted on 08/25/2006 5:37:12 AM PDT by Dane

In the United States, former presidential candidate and journalist, Pat Buchanan is again stirring controversy by trying to give sight to the willfully blind. An open border that allows anyone to come to the United States, he asserts, means the country is headed for self-destruction. Buchanan’s figures are irrefutable: one in 12 illegal immigrants has a criminal record; by 2050 there will be 100 million Hispanics (at current immigration rates) concentrated in the American Southwest, as some radicals plot to undo the results of the Mexican-American War. (Since May 2006, Border Patrol agents have arrested more than 160,000 illegals, more than the number of troops currently deployed in Iraq.)

Buchanan criticizes the president and the Republican Congress (“a wholly owned subsidiary of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce”) for caring more about cheap labor than the health and strength of the country. He wants a deportation program and a strict limit on legal immigration until those already here are properly assimilated and those who are committing crimes are deported. He also wants a 2,000-mile, double-line security fence along the U.S.-Mexico border, no matter what Mexico thinks. Read all about it in his new book, “State of Emergency: Third World Invasion and Conquest of America.”

Gee Cal, why should I believe "statistics" in a book, by an author(pat buchanan) who stated that diesel fumes in a confined space don't kill.

In a 1990 New York Post column defending Demjanjuk, Buchanan claimed that the diesel engine used to kill victims at Treblinka could "not emit enough carbon monoxide to kill anybody." When asked for his source, Buchanan cited an article about children surviving the fumes of idling diesel engines while trapped in a tunnel. However, there was ample oxygen in the tunnel, and the primary cause of death in diesel-powered chambers was asphyxiation on carbon monoxide rather than carbon monoxide poisoning. It is estimated that gas chambers powered by diesel engines were used to suffocate between 1.5 and 2.5 million people at the Treblinka, Belzec, Sobibór, and Chelmno death camps.

Cal, when are you going to ask pat buchanan to prove his theory that diesel fumes don't kill, by having pat shut his garage door, start up his Mercedes, and stay in the garage for a 1/2 hour.

Wow.

I've never seen someone go off topic on post #1 of the thread they posted before.

Nothing off topic at all, Cal Thomas was quoting pat buchanan(more like book pimping for him).

Do you wish to prove pat buchanan's theory that diesel fumes in a confined space don't kill.

Since your article isn't about diesel fumes, it's irrelevant.

Pat is wrong about alot of things, grossly so in many cases. (I never heard the diesel fumes story before). Though some of his statistics are likely suspect in his new book, we ALL need to demand that the border is sealed first and foremost. This is BS that thousands of people cross it each day.

AFTER the border is sealed, we can talk about assimilation, guest workers, paths to citizenship and the like. But not before.

Wow, a thread hijack by its own poster ignoring the illegal immigration angle and going straight for the Nazi slam. Untoppable!

why not just concentrate on the theme of the book, we are being overrun by dirtbags from mexico....

And one of pat buchanan's themes also is that diesel fumes in a confined space don't kill.

Would you like to prove pat buchanan's theme true?

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Your reaction is what C.S. Lewis called the "Smythe theorem." Mr. Smythe tells his wife the sun rises in the east, and she says, "Oh, you're just saying that because you're a man!"

You have to distinguish the man from the message. If the message is true, the previous errors of the messenger don't change that truth. No matter how much you personally dislike the messenger.

Ol' Pat is a nut, but on this one I'm afraid he's right.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

And the clock is still broken.

Wouldn't it be better to fix the clock.

Well I'd rather have that, than believing and publishing diesel fumes in a confined space doesn't kill, ala pat buchanan

The article isn't about a clock either.
Why didn't you post this in chat if you were going to screw up the thread, the way you have?

LOL, do you wish to prove pat buchanan's contention that diesel fumes in a confined space don't kill.

What does that have to do with the POINTS raised in the book? Even the phony conservatives and big-government globalists on Brit Hume's show yesterday didn't dispute the points, just acted like they wanted Pat Buchanan dead for shedding more light on this issue.
