Buchanan-Matthews 2008? Chris Pleads With Pat to Take Back GOP From Neo-Cons

Don't laugh. If Lenora Fulani could flirt with Pat Buchanan in 2000, why not a Buchanan-Matthews ticket in 2008? After all, the pair share a powerful unifying distaste for neo-cons.

On this evening's Hardball, Matthews pleaded with Buchanan to take back the Republican party from neo-conservatives. Matthews:

"Pat, when are the traditional conservatives in this country who believe in less government, less role in the world, like yourself, though you might be more extreme than some, George Will, Bill Buckley, when are you guys going to retake your party from the neo-conservatives and stop these overseas campaigns?"

Buchanan: "I'll tell you, when you get a president of the United States who doesn't listen to them. And frankly you've got a president and a country that have been horribly burned by following this foolish ideology and I think in the future, Chris, quite frankly, it needn't to have happened - I think after Iraq you're not going to get a lot of adventures, although they are pushing for the Iranian thing as the last great cause."

Perhaps the two could convince Ralph Nader to accept an anticipatory appointment as Secretary of State, with Ned Lamont at Defense. Can you say 'unstoppable juggernaut'?

I am surprised this goes without comment.

I think neoconservativism is an astounding success and Pat's worldview has been a perpetual failure.

We are talkng about a man who is not sure about fighting WWII.

This would be hilarious if it were not quite so frightening! The way Pitchfork Pat and Chrissy Matthews both hate the President, the lovefest is both predictable and nauseating.

Isn't this the same as asking "when are the republicans going to start nominating perennial losers?"

Chris Matthews is drunk as can be!!! Did he spit on Pat like he does when he's full blown tanked? MSNBC and General Electric should be ashamed, and NBC and GE stockholders are fools to let these failures continue.

Call it what you want but truly don't you think that we may today be better if we listened to Pat? Answer to the kool-aid drinkers on this site - NO. Answer to the rest of the country - YES.

I've always thought of George Will as a moderate.
Pat isn't a conservative, he is a populist and anti-Semite.

Buchanan is an isolationist?

Say it's not so.

If we followed Pat's advice, sooner or later we'd all be speaking Arabic and praying toward Mecca.

Jerry Springer can be the Ambassador to the UN since it's all just a joke anyway.

Yeah Pat's appeasing of al-queda would work. Clinton tried it(by letting bin ladin go) and it gave us 9/11.

But will Chrissy take back the Democrats from the neo-coms?

C'mon Pat, you're agreeing with Chrissy. That's gotta be a frickin' sign.

Matthews pleaded with Buchanan to take back the Republican party from neo-conservatives.

Translation:
Matthews pleaded with Buchanan to return the GOP to the parody the Dems could regularly portray as racist, bigoted, homophobic, intelectually vapid Bible thumpers.

Ol' Pat would have been happy as a Isolationist Senator in the 1920s voting for the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act. The world has changes and Pat is in a time warp.
