University of California, Berkeley, Chancellor Robert Birgeneau is creating a top-level post to focus on keeping the campus fair and welcoming.
Birgeneau said he wants to make sure there is equal opportunity for students, faculty and staff regardless of religion, sexual orientation, race, gender or whether someone has a disability or not.
"I very strongly believe that every single person (should) feel that this is a place where they belong, where they are respected for their individuality, for what they represent and their background," Birgeneau said Wednesday in announcing the new position at a back-to-school briefing.
A national search is under way to fill the job of vice chancellor for equity and inclusion. Salary has not been determined, but the range is between $182,000 and $282,000, a campus spokeswoman said.
Birgeneau said the new vice chancellor will work with human resources, services for the disabled, multicultural centers and other units to make sure students feel at ease and faculty and staff get equal opportunities to advance.
In meetings about the climate on campus, Birgeneau said he didn't discover systematic discrimination but found some dissatisfaction.
"It became clear to me we were not going to make Berkeley the kind of place it needs to be (by) approaching the challenge piecemeal," he said.

A minor edit was needed since they forgot a critial part of the opening sentence.

180,000 to 280,000 is a lot of jack. Im sure California could find better uses for the money..

"vice chancellor for equity and inclusion"
BRILLIANT !

I visited Berkeley recently. More than half the students appear to be Asian. And I think thats great! If they work hard, get in, and can handle the courses, it shouldn't matter what they are.

As if those PC fags need any more diversity. What are they lacking? Polygamists? Bestiality supporters? NAMBLA?

What better use of that money then to give a no-work no-show job to a campus administrator's "partner"?
(Off-topic)Today's odd fact you probably didn't know: Cal-Berkeley actually has a functioning NROTC unit.

True diversity includes everyone, which is why this proposal is dead in the water at Berkeley.

About $282,000.00 plus benefits. A bargain to be sure.
