Yes, please tell us about it. We only have one other on the board who was there.

I was there in 2000-2001. I found the Serbs in RS to be quite friendly in most cases. In some cases they were at worst defiant of the intervention, but rarely did I hear of hostilities.

The Bosnian Muslims I met were equally friendly, and seemed quite thankful for the intervention. Most of the Bosnian Muslims I spoke with told me they are secular. I even had a Bosnian Serb, who was the interpretor for our unit, tell me the same thing (about the Bosnian Muslims). They are very much Europeans, being that Yugoslavia was a very open country and the Bosnians more considered themselves Yugoslavians than Bosnian Muslims.

We did have a couple of incidents involving Serbs. One, where a Serb was being arrested and attempted to throw a grenade at some of our troops, only to blow himself up with it. And our Joint Operations headquarters was regularly attacked by RPG and small arms fire.

All in all, I came away more disheartened that the two sides probably would take a long time to reconcile, if ever. It looks now like my prediction is correct.
