Bastardi reports that Saint Frances Prayer of Serenity being used with each recon report he sees.

Good grief. There ought to be a law. Hmmm...shouting fire in a movie theater already is. We may have a prosecutable case.

OH yeah- isn't that a nice thing to say about people whose lives are already in ruins!
If it's a 'cleansing' that hurricanes provide, maybe we can direct a few up the East Coast to places like New York( home of untold numbers of terrorists), or Hyannisport a.k.a. The Kennedy sewer.
Look , I personally think the New Orleans area is geologically( not to mention politically) doomed, but thats not the same as smirking in anticipation of more death and destruction for a part of this country.
People on the Gulf Coast could say the same about tornados 'cleansing' Oklahoma, Illinois and Indiana. How many tornados have there been in the Midwest? Man--must be a LOT of 'cleaning' needed in those parts! When the next super outbreak of twisters hits and destroys communities,do you think they will appreciate people intimating that they 'had it coming.'?
Your anti-South bias is showing- you didn't specify N.O./LA- you don't think much of any of the Gulf States! Would you LIKE to see all the Gulf States destroyed permanently?

Thanks for the ping- but most down here feel that it just isn't a problem till its a problem. We're stressed and worried-out.
Hurricanes are unpredictable, until this( or any other) is a direct threat, my give-a-damn is as busted as the levees.

Appears the Gulf States are due for another cleansing. Must be sure dirty down there.

Are you being sarcastic? I can't tell by your post.

Sorry that I skipped over your thread. I did a search and checked the normal keywords and didn't see it.

Today is only Aug. 24th.

That it is, and it looks like the cap is coming off just in time for the heart of the season. We recently started swinging into a more favorable pattern for storms, and it looks like it could be around for a while.

I hear you, and I surely understand. Will continue to keep the hurricane pings to a minimum until significant developments and/or U.S. threats occur. However, TD #5 is the first storm of the 2006 season to get my serious attention. If you don't already have one, try to get a plan together now--rather than 5 days from now.

I'll keep you in my prayers, FRiend.

Hurricane Andrew SE Florida landfall August 24, 1992. I'll never forget. Of course, I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.

I nominate this storm for a "Castro visit".

GOM is toasty again this season, though this is about what it usually looks like this time of year.. and water temps are only part of the equation, of course.

Thank you.
Our plan is -leave. That's all anyone can do and, to tell you the truth, this has been a year of terrible, personal loss in many ways. If we have to leave, and this area takes the final blow, I can't say that I'd miss it. There would be no more decisions over which to agonize.
At least living with the yearly threats and panic and evacuations would be over; and people who are rubbing their hands in gleeful anticipation of the final destruction of our area can celebrate and then wish disaster on another part of the country.

Yes we could do that. We are in no danger from flooding but we could have a tree come through the roof. What we could do is wait out the storm, if it comes here and causes no damage to our house the electricity will be out for a week. (I know this because it has happened in the past.)

Then instead of staying here with no a/c we will head to Montana and come home when things are back to normal.

By next week, I may be freaking out over this storm. But I can't yet.

I'm gonna watch it very closely, though.

Could be a problem. All the models have it at hurricane status by then, although the intensity models are not terribly good.

Good luck.

I don't have a Houston pinglist, but this could be a problem.
