Hillary? Who?....Make way for Feingold (Is it possible Karl Rove has insurgents at the DNC ?)
NRO ^ | August 23, 2006 | Kathryn Jean Lopez

Move over, Hillary: Russ Feingold is going to be the Democratic nominee for president in 2008. For far too long the assumption has been that the former First Lady would be the Dems’ obvious pick. The storyline had dynastic flair, plus the sexy-milestone first-woman-president aspect. It had the wronged-woman-coming-out-on-top Style-section and glossy headline opportunities. The idea launched many a Clinton-hater (hey, nothing wrong with that, I’m a card-carrier) book. It was scary while it lasted. But the moment’s gone.

Enter Sen. Russell Feingold, three-term Democrat from Wisconsin.

He’s positioned himself as the antiwar alternative. He’s got the advantage of being able to say to anyone disillusioned about Iraq that he was (in his mind) right all along — unlike Johnny-come-latelies like former Democratic vice=president nominee John Edwards, who recently apologized for his 2002 Senate vote for the Iraq invasion. And with the recent defeat of Joe Lieberman in the Connecticut Democratic primary, it’s Feingold’s hour. It’s his party and he can run if he wants to. The red carpet is out.

And it’s really no surprise. I was talking about the Democratic 2008 options with a smart Republican Beltwayer, pre-Connecticut, and he saw the 2006 Democratic party for what it is: “The Democrat base is dominated by the Kossacks, Cindy Sheehan disciples, and Big Labor special interests who are increasingly devoted to a cause-oriented political jihad against what they view as a Democrat Establishment. Their disagreement with the Establishment is born out of their belief that: moderation is akin to treason towards the liberal doctrine; support for the war in Iraq is the political equivalent of having ‘666’ marked on your skull. You’re either with them or against them.”

The DNC may as well change their name to "Team Fratricide". This isn't part of any Rovian plot; it's simply the blind ambition and raw fanaticism of the anti-war crowd. They can't wait to grab the wheel so they can drive the entire party over the cliff.

It's already started with Lieberman and Lamont. They're still wrestling for control, and Lieberman was the party's VP nomination just a few years ago. The purge has already begun, and it's going to be ugly.

Well, cute as that image might be, that is the most irrelevant scenario. The real and huge danger is complacency on the part of the sane electorate, allowing these radicals to drive the entire country over that cliff.

Just the thought of those sub-50 IQ criminals controlling the committees and subcommittees in congress is the stuff of nightmares.

The secondary effects pale in comparison.

This same generation of Dems are are proud that they destroyed the Dem Party of LBJ-Hubert Humphrey by nominating McGovern and replaced it with the Frank Church type of leadership.

They are proud that they destroyed Nixon and the presidency. (Of course, Nixon helped... a case of assisted suicide.)

They want to destroy the traditional family, the church and other societal institutions.

To push the envelope and to be on the cutting edge are more important than crass goals such as winning.

A Feingold-McKinney ticket would provide many hours of amusement.

Russ Feingold will never see the third weekend of the primaries.

He is Jewish. End of story. The Nazis in the DNC will never endorse him. He will do a Lieberman.

Russ - I strongly suggest you stay out of the parks - and let someone else start your car - each and every day.

Feingold's not to be lightly disregarded. He's an effective campaigner with a well-honed populist message. He will have nothing like the negatives that Hillary would have in November. And John Kerry's near-victory in 2004 shows that a hard-core left-wing Senate voting record can be overlooked by a lot of the electorate. By 2008 we could be two years into a serious housing crash and still facing $3 plus gas -- more than enough to win Ohio...
