One the contrary, your point could be taken that they are being racist and automatically putting [people of European descent] as American without the need of tagging on American.
To: Rb ver. 2.0
Everybody is racist to some extent, and extreme racists can come from all people groups, not only European-descendees, and not only nonEuropean-descendees.
To: Hegewisch Dupa
Generally bump, but with the addendum that everybody is racist to some extent.

I think a great show would be a combination of reality shows.
Fear Factor, Survivor, Hell's Kitchen, American Idol etc.
Think of it: a singing chef cooking up some camel balls that a muslim would have to consume while crossing the Grand Canyon riding a unicycle on a wire. Now that would be entertaining!

You are being racist, and could also be dating yourself. Oriental is considered offensive in current lingo. But as for your more racist point, Asian can hold their own on the physical parts as easily as the others, including your own people group. (Guess: European-descent?).
To: SW6906; Hatteras
There can be an upside if the people of African descent win, though it would be largely at the expense of those who put European-descent on a pedestal.
However, those of European descent who recognize their people group is the same as the others, would be able to endure those of African descent winning without perceiving a loss of status of their people group.

Hey - it's not that I'm racist; I just like how I look in white robes

Asian Asians....

Survivor just jumped the shark.....

That's already happened--last night on Scarborough. The black guy (whose name escapes me) was outraged and told blacks not to watch.

This is so stupid because there is no such thing as a Latino race. "Latinos" whatever that is, can be of any race - black, white, Asian, Native American or a mixture of.
In Cuba and in Miami there are many Chinese whose families migrated to Cuba - they speak Spanish like the Cubans and they consider themselves Cuban American and Latino. What about all those Black baseball players from Cuba, DR, and Puerto Rico - they are black and Latino too. Or lets say like Daisey Fuentes or Bob Villa - white cuban americans of European desent.
I hope CBS gets really dogged for this.

Latinos
can be of any of the old people groups, but the concept of race is subjective to an extent (you could separate Western and Eastern European, for example). Thus, they could separate Latinos as a separate people group on account of culture (ethnic group, and all Americans should be of the same ethnicity, so there shouldn't be any Latinos, but that is commonly used for people from Latin America).
They also seem to have selected pale-skinned Latinos, too. If they were going for four people groups, they should have picked Latinos with more Amerindian blood.

Yeah, I agree. Where are the red people?

if you want muslims, CBS is featuring a pair of "muslim fathers" as one of its team of contestants on this fall's Amazing Race. Do the other team have to stop 5 times a day and wait while the Muslim team prays?

"if one of the other groups wins, particularly the African-descended group, this could quell racism on their part, showing that their people group can go one-on-one with the others (particularly the European-descended group) and win."
You're focusing on outcome. If the shows producers have the same idea, it will be the same as affirmative action.
I believe the simplest (therefore the most influential) message is the demonstration of groups opposing each other.

I heard the majority of contestants are from California and in the entertainment industry (actors, etc). Jeff admitted most of the contestants were recruited....
-snip-
I'm not sure of the exact number, but about 85 percent of the people on the show were recruited. In other words, these are people that did not apply, maybe not have seen "Survivor" or even cared about "Survivor." We told them nothing about the way we were gonna group them because we didn't even know that at the time. Our original goal was to have more ethnic diversity on the show.
