The conventional wisdom is that Bush is not a very good speaker. But up close, he is a great communicator, in a way that, in my opinion, Ronald Reagan was not. He was by turns instructive, persuasive, and funny. His persona is very much that of the big brother. Above all, he was impassioned. I have never seen a politician speak so evidently from the heart, about big issues--freedom, most of all.

He's not a very good public speaker. He can give good speeches when they are important enough that he spends many hours with a speech writer and rehearsals, but the podium stuff is not his forte.

I've always heard that he is at his best up close, and I'm jealous that you got to see him that way, and I never did.

But I think that's why he does so well on the campaign trail - the people who go to these events love him. He might just attract more voters to the GOP side of the ballot than the media would ever expect.

You know, when I posted that (late-night return to DC) photo, I thought, I've never seen anyone who is so restored by a good night's sleep as that man!

Everyone knows that.

Exactly! We have discussed it here, as well. No individual is perfect, or right 100% of the time, but we don't go around saying, I love my husband...BUT...he leaves his dirty sox in the living room. Okay, bad example! LOL!

I'm hoping to be able to get rid of the crutches before I leave for DC.

That would be wonderful! It would be so much nicer and easier for you. Do you have a place to live and all that stuff?

The video of Jonathan and the post by John (at Powerline) just made my day . . . I'm glad you enjoyed them as well!

That is SO funny you say that. My ex made a PMB open-faced sandwich and had it on a plate on the counter. He must have been distracted, because he wasn't around when I took a bite--it looked so good. Until....I realized it wasn't butter, but Miracle Whip. He was a Miracle Whip person (me too) not a mayonnaise person (Helman's).

Man, was THAT a shocker to my taste buds. I'd never heard of that combo. In Minnesota EVERYthing is better with butter!

*** And that squeezie-bottle sweet pickle relish is great.***
LOL! Don't tell Ohio's husband.

I had a funny picture pop into my head when I read that, of Mr. ohio in the kitchen with the relish squeezie bottle open, his head tilted back, and ...

Oh, that video from WCCO is a PERFECT illustration of what we were talking about earlier this week.

The President circumvents the hostile national media and goes right to the people......who ADORE him.......and his true character (see tagline) is evident to the people of a local community.

Showing this on WCCO to the residents of the (liberal) Twin Cities is absolutely fantastic!

I know that I would be awed to be in GWB's presence and hear him speak, but I really don't think I would be surprised. I loved reading Ohio's report as well as this blog by John H. What they have said is just what I have come to expect based on many reports. I wish that this blog was required reading!

He can eat all the relish he wants................as long as my scalloped potatoes aren't involved. :)

My mother always fed us Miracle Whip.

Man, did I ever get ripped off.

It's mayo for me now, the real stuff. I buy it the Trader Joe's brand.

This diet acts on the chemical interaction of foods, and it is totally weird.

But it works......and it's only three days.

I never put mayo on peanut butter and banana sandwiches. I actually don't eat mayo - I'm a Miracle Whip person, :-)

I've been cleaning out my kitchen cabinets, and I came across the food grinder I haven't used in years. So before I lugged it off to the Thrift shop, I treated myself to what we used to call "Jumbo-ground-up-with-pickle" sandwiches. :-)

(That's Jumbo bologna, in case you're not from Pittsburgh. :-))

Very much so.

I'm also so proud that the Powerline people are mostly from MN, too. Minnesotans are so kind and decent....unfortunately, they are also for giving away their last $ to those needy, too; which equals their love for social programs and feeling guilty that they're not doing what they should do for society, if they're not voting Dem. They're starting to realize their family values are more important than social programs that aren't producing enough results. Yeah Republican Minnesotans!!!

Dear Jonathan - you ROCK, my man!!!

Even if I don't have to take the crutches, I still have to wear the Cam walker which I'm not terribly thrilled about but oh well. Yeah, my school takes care of the living arrangements. They charge us with our regular bill so I don't have to worry about rent right now.

My son and d-i-l in D.C (for now) ADORE Trader Joe's.

But we don't have one here!! I have an hour's drive to get to one, and it's just not worth the trouble.

(btw, my Mom gave us Miracle Whip too...........why did they DO such a thing to us??)
