It's not about the flag, so much as it is about the teacher violating a law he didn't like. He should do his protesting on his own time.

Personally, I think it's a silly law. It was prolly a response to to recent protests against toughening US immigration policy, same as some schools creating rules against students or teachers wearing or carrying *any* nation's flags.

Bingo. There were a number of incidents over the last couple of years where students (and their parents) objected to the U.S. flag in the classroom or wanted only the Mexican flag in the classroom. It got pretty bitter. At one middle school in Jefferson County (same district that just suspended the teacher) last spring, some students said the Principal was heard saying they (the 'migrants') should all go back where they came from. It was a lie...and she nearly lost her job over it. We have had staged walkouts over immigration issues. It is ugly and getting uglier every year.

The legislature took action and passed a law prohibiting flags other than the U.S. flag in classrooms on a permanent basis.

The rest of the Denver media hasn't picked up on this yet...at least, they don't have anything up on their websites so I don't know the whole story. But, given the two flags he refused to remove, I am guessing this is a teacher with an agenda.
