AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch police arrested 12 passengers on a U.S. Northwest Airlines plane bound for India which was forced to turn back to Amsterdam's Schiphol airport on Wednesday, news agency ANP reported.
ANP quoted a police spokesman as saying 12 were arrested, but declined to give further details due to the ongoing investigation.
Police officials were not immediately available to comment.
The Dutch Defense Ministry said earlier the pilot decided to turn back after the crew said several of the 149 passengers on flight 42 to Mumbai were behaving suspiciously.
Security has been increased at airports worldwide in the last two weeks after British police said they had foiled a plot by British Muslims to blow up planes in the mid-Atlantic using liquid explosives disguised as drinks.
WOW! That's bizarre! Twilite zone is right!
Tim Nelson has had some choice experiences....might be looking for a non flying job!
I find the complaining and griping more distracting and annoying than the humor, which as you point out is a release valve. jm2c.
I've read from several sources,
here's a quote:
"According to Indian Government the total percentage of Muslim in India is in between 11% to 12%. "
I don't see Iran, Iraq, or Syria on that list, for that matter, which are countries that are predominated by Arab Muslims, as are some countries on your list. Pakistan shares a border with Afghanistan and both are on that list, yet you don't generally see Arab Pakistanis or Afghanis listed as "Asian" either, except in selected news stories. If they would print photos of the people about whom the stories were written, we could all form our own opinions about their ethnicity rather than their continental background, and see what the people who shared their flights saw.
To many Americans, the term "Asian" IS used most interchangeably with those who used to be called "Oriental", while those from the Middle East are (fairly or not) more likely to be considered "Arab"; this is not because of the contintental but the ethnic perception. My point (not a full-fledged beef) is that the continental designation may be accurate from a technical standpoint, but at least the one news article did nothing to inform the public of the real face of the people who are the subject of these articles.
IF they were Pakistani Arab Muslims, why not say so? IF they were North Koreans, why not say so? IF they were Japanese, why not say so? My complaint was that the technical designation of "Asian" tells us nothing, and it appears that the story is obscuring relevant facts (again) due to either laziness or an agenda, or both.
Sure seems that way. Not to step in the middle of your discussion on the use of "Asian" but I'd sure like to know where these people are from. And I mean SPECIFICALLY where they are from.
Me, too.
In new news... the incident on the plane has been determined not to have been terror related.
Another victory for Bin Laden, thanks to the jitters these buggers have caused.
Regarding the "test run", it seems like a lot of test runs are happening lately, e.g the nutty female peace activist from Pakistan who went crazy on a flight last week. The MSM did not even mention who she was or what she really did on the flight (also now everyone knows there were no air marshalls on the flight, but not that she was an America hater)
For your edification. All of the postings I have seen on DU since this story broke are pretty much predictable. This is all due to racist white people profiling muslims, the fear of attack as a part of a Carl Rovian scheme to effect upcoming elections, all Bush's fault,....yadda, yadda, yadda. Some things never change....certainly not DUmmy paranoia and inability to see the obvious.

Jeeze no Tom Jones in that list? Who'd a thunk??
How odd, that all of the people who decided to behave in an odd manner on a flight would turn out to be muslims?! (And not welsh singers).
Inconceivable!Bizarre! Flabberghasting!

And the thing that gets me is that time after time it's Muslims who do these things and still Euroweenie countries say Islam is the Religion of peace! Even so-called moderate Muslims support Jihad underneath.
She said one went to each bathroom and one started doing squat-thrusts in front of the exit door. Then a man approached the one who appeared to be the leader, who was seated near her, made a slashing motion across his throat, and clearly mouthed the word "NO." She said everyone was terrified, including the flight attendants in her section, though from the back she could hear them screaming at one of them to return to their seats. The woman next to them was crying. They all thought they were about to die.
If there is honor among them, perhaps some Saudi Soros-like sheik will spring 'em all at once.

Seems like a great scheme. Have a whole bunch of groups go in and act suspiciously. Since they don't actually do anything illegal, nothing can happen to them
After the airline industry and general public gets tired of false alarms and starts ignoring suspicious behavior, THEN the real teams hit
What? No Hector Hernandez, Gertrude Himmelfarb or Slappey Cooper on the list? But -- but I thought terrorists came in all colors!
