SOME WEDNESDAY SPIN! Most in US see no tie between Iraq, terror war: poll Tue Aug 22, 10:29 PM ET A majority of Americans no longer see a link between the war in Iraq and Washington's broader anti-terrorism efforts despite President George W. Bush's insistence the two are intertwined, according to a New York Times/CBS News poll released on Tuesday. Fifty-one percent of those surveyed said the war in Iraq was separate from the U.S. government's war on terrorism. The findings were a considerable shift from polls taken in 2002 and early 2003, when a majority considered the two to be linked, The New York Times said. As recently as June, opinion was evenly split, with 41 percent on both sides of the divide. Now only 32 percent considered Iraq to be a major part of the fight against terrorism, the newspaper said. According to the poll, 46 percent said the Bush administration had concentrated too heavily on Iraq and not enough on terrorists elsewhere. Fifty-three percent said going to war in the first place was a mistake, up from 48 percent in July, The New York Times said. Bush's approval ratings remained unchanged at 36 percent. His popularity has been damaged by the unpopular war in Iraq, in which the U.S. military death toll is 2,610. As recently as Monday, Bush defended the invasion of Iraq as crucial to preventing more domestic terror attacks. "If you believe that the job of the federal government is to secure this country, it's really important for you to understand that success in Iraq is part of securing the country," Bush said during a news conference. The unpopularity of the Iraq war has many Republicans nervous about the party's chances in the November midterm elections in which Democrats are seeking to retake control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. The Times/CBS News poll of 1,206 adults was conducted Thursday through Monday and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
A lot of folks thought that way in 92. Unfortunately, it was the country that suffered. The party actually benefitted.
Such a bad world.
"It still bothers me 41 did not get a second term.
"
It wasn't the social conservatives who voted for "I'm all ears". It was the same people who would vote for Giulioni(Not all of Rudy's supporters, but most of "Ears" voters are the same ones who will vote for Rudy.
THey need not hoist their demons on me.
On 9/11 McC was in the DEMOCRAT senate leader's office, along with Kerry, having a strategy meeting.
Yep, Rush said he did great until he said that ... He chuckled that the "drive by media" will call him a pinhead after he said that...he was laughing when he said it...
Everything libs say proves how certifiably crazy they are.
I take part of the blame for that. :(
The only way McCain might get to the POTUS position is to run as an Independent...'cause fer sure THIS conservative is not voting for him.
You mean that Karr guy? Not surprising.
ding, ding... we have a winner!
what dose Rudy, have over Newt, other then being the mayor in 9/11?
Then support him because the alternative could get us all killed.
People that were hoodwinked by Perot, inadvertantly helped lead to 9/11 because of the fool that was elected.
Voting has consequences....the best man does not always get the job, you have to go with the best man that can win.
That's politics.
OK, but I won't when at Walter Reed. THose guys are not only vets, they are heroes. I pray each of you get to meet at least one of them. I have been blessed beyond my measure by meeting many of them.
I know, I wish I did not have such a strong work ethic...all work and no play lately!!!! But I WILL be back...just know I am always here! Maybe not posting but reading, lurking and listening.
I heard a clip of Joe Lieberman on with Glenn Beck yesterday...and Joe was saying that the UN resolution re: Israel/Lebanon was Bush's "Chamberlain moment" and he is taking us back to 1941..
Sooo..ole Joe Lieberman really is trying to distance from that "kiss" of death that Bush gave him....the fool.
hmmm sounds crazy
Yeah...they were probably already planning the "GANG of 14" ....that pretty much anointed themselves the arbiter of all things in the Senate this last year...
EVEN though this is no such thing as a "gang of 14" in the Constitution!!
The party will not only suffer but the Country will. Please give it some thought. :)
Whoa, slow down. I never said how I felt about it. I only posed the question in the context of the party base. I certainly never even hinted that abortion trumps security. Only a liberal would agree to that.
I only asked whether Jake believed the party base was ready to ignore the mayors pro-abortion position.
