SOME WEDNESDAY SPIN! Most in US see no tie between Iraq, terror war: poll Tue Aug 22, 10:29 PM ET A majority of Americans no longer see a link between the war in Iraq and Washington's broader anti-terrorism efforts despite President George W. Bush's insistence the two are intertwined, according to a New York Times/CBS News poll released on Tuesday. Fifty-one percent of those surveyed said the war in Iraq was separate from the U.S. government's war on terrorism. The findings were a considerable shift from polls taken in 2002 and early 2003, when a majority considered the two to be linked, The New York Times said. As recently as June, opinion was evenly split, with 41 percent on both sides of the divide. Now only 32 percent considered Iraq to be a major part of the fight against terrorism, the newspaper said. According to the poll, 46 percent said the Bush administration had concentrated too heavily on Iraq and not enough on terrorists elsewhere. Fifty-three percent said going to war in the first place was a mistake, up from 48 percent in July, The New York Times said. Bush's approval ratings remained unchanged at 36 percent. His popularity has been damaged by the unpopular war in Iraq, in which the U.S. military death toll is 2,610. As recently as Monday, Bush defended the invasion of Iraq as crucial to preventing more domestic terror attacks. "If you believe that the job of the federal government is to secure this country, it's really important for you to understand that success in Iraq is part of securing the country," Bush said during a news conference. The unpopularity of the Iraq war has many Republicans nervous about the party's chances in the November midterm elections in which Democrats are seeking to retake control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. The Times/CBS News poll of 1,206 adults was conducted Thursday through Monday and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Rudy kicked Arafat out of Carnegie Hall. Told him he wasn't invited and had him escorted out.

Rudy ignored the race hustlers, cleaned up their neighborhoods and they still despise him. Got the drug dealers and street pedlars out of the streets in front of their business, they still hate him. He did the right thing with no regard for ratings.

Rudy told the arab sheik to stuff his money after 9/11.

Rudy did what he wanted to do. GOOD FOR HIM

The media in their effort to downplay the President's leadership following 9/11 heaped praise on Rudy. Put him on the cover of Time...Man of the Year. John McCrazy called him America's Mayor. Hah, now McCain is going to have to beat Rudy at the polls. Ha ha ha ha

I don't care about the party suffering or not... why would you make the rest of us suffer with Hitlery? Or whatever RAT they put up in 08? Because that's what will happen due to third-party votes.

I agree. I've heard people who knew McCain well before the war say that he just isn't the same after the war as before, and not the usual trauma of war. The years of torture as a POW did significant damage. And they're men who personally knew, fought with, and like him, and they don't think he's quite right in his head, and that he shouldn't be President. How can anyone argue with people who know and like the guy and knew him before and after the war?

Since Newt opined that hilaryclinton knows more about health care than anyone else in the country, I could never trust his judgment on any issue.

Rudy's getting rid of the squeegee guys alone was worth it.

I would like to see Newt get the nomination. However, I would hold my nose and vote for the Pub. The fight takes place in the primary, once that is over, I will stick with the party with VREY FEW exceptions.

A non vote or third party vote is the same as a vote for dem

I think the majority of republicans understand that homeland security and the war on terror is the first priority.

Rudy understands that a lot better than Newtie, McCrazy, Allen or any of the other wannabes.

Sorry if you think abortion trumps security, but I suspect you are not in the majority.

It will be the entire country's problem. And heartbreaking if it happens, because it would have been avoidable.

YEP - how many Pro-Choice Presidents have changed the law?

Has GWB changed the law - no - because no President can.

NONE

Abortion is matter of family values - not Presidential candidates - raise good children and abortions will go away.

He might have run for Gov at one time, we'll never know. I disagree with "the team is supposed to come first." That's why I've never joined a party. To me, it's country first.

LOL...I heard a wackjob host on WABC radio say that she'd gladly have the coke dealers back on her porch instead of Rudy for mayor.

Libs are unhinged and clearly willing to undermine their own safety to satisfy their hatreds.
