Donation will allow Minutemen to erect high-tech border fence
KOLD ^ | Associated Press

TUCSON, Ariz. A Washington-based company is donating up to seven (m) million dollars worth of fiber-optic security fencing material for the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps for new barriers near the border.

The mesh has embedded sensors that can differentiate between human and animal contact and conditions such as high winds or heavy rain. Tied into cameras and alarms, the system can alert monitors to the precise location of any intrusion.

A spokeswoman for the Minuteman corps says the material could be used on range fencing similar to what the group put up earlier this year on a southern Arizona ranch.

Arizona's 377-mile border has been the focal point for smugglers bringing illegal immigrants into this country for years.

You are correct and it is more likely that our liberal friends up north would allow radical muslims to enter their country (through an airport) than our corrupt neighbor to the south. I also think the drug cartels in Mexico would'nt be enthusiastic about sneaking muslim terrorist over the southern border because that would be VERY BAD for their normal business in the long run but they could probably blend in with the rest of the horde. The price of dope rose considerably after 9/11 with the tightened border security and screening.

The northern border would be much more difficult to fence but they are not trying to immigrate to our country (outside of Disneyland/World visits).

Well, there is a whole lot of CHAT and chatter here at FR, from NASCAR races to Jon Benet, to Oscar Awards live threads, to Duke Lacrosse team rape threads... and heck there are even a few news and politics threads he(she) can participate in. FR has just about everything a bunch of conservatives would want to discuss, chat, argue, snipe, and even engage in a little activism.

FR is a big place, and if a new (gasp!) person signs on, they should be given the benefit of the doubt, at least until they say something that breaks the FR rules.

Sheesh! Why do so many people have hair triggers tonight? Is the moon full, or something?

Why neglect our northern border

I don't have to be told by anybody what to think.

Maybe you don't have to, but it sure seems like you're willing.

I can pretty well spot a bunch of phoneys when I see them.

That remains to be seen.

Thanks. I will try it out for a few days and then football will probably slow me down on politics for awhile.

Does this board get alot of retread posters or something? It is mildly amusing to be accused of being a previous poster on a new board.

You are incorrect about our northern border.

Canadian pot smuggling is HUGH and series business; so is illegal crossings of Pakistanis, Arab Muslims, terrorists, and European illegals.

You DO need to read up on this. :-)

As with any board, there are some 'trolls'. However, most of the folks on FR are great people and enjoy discussing the topics of the day. Being the new guy, you may be questioned by some. Just post intelligent thoughts and don't develope a case of diarrhea of the mouth! There are 'ping-lists' on FR for a lot of different topics- look into joining a few of the lists for subjects that interest you. Enjoy!

We don't know each other well enough but suffice it to say that I am intimately acquainted with the smuggling of high grade pot over the border.

Oh, but unlike YOU, I AM "informed". I do know about that and it isn't the MCDC people doing that, up north.

I don't deal dope but I deal with dopers and let's leave it at that.....

I share your concerns about people coming over the border from Canada in regards to terrorism. I also expect that it will happen sometime in the near future but I also think it will force Canada to tighten up on their immigration rules and laws. Hopefully it will not be too late and whatever happens will not be too harmful.

The wave of illegal immigration and crime from Mexico is much more damaging to our nation in comparison to any troubles that have come from Canada.

The illegal imporation of BC Bud is a real problem here in the U.S. however, most marijuana is being grown domestically or is still coming from Mexico. We have lots of outdoor grows here in Central Washington each year that are normally planted, tended, and harvested by illegal aliens.

That's not the Minutemen, despite what the article says, that's mostly locals who live in the Blaine, Washington area, patrolling on horseback and ATV's alongside the Border Patrol. The FOX News Channel's reporter based in Seattle had a report on the FOX Report With Shepard Smith, and he spent the day with those out on patrol on horseback not long ago.

The locals know more about the rough terrain in the back country better than the Border Patrol officers (who are usually shipped in from elsewhere) do.

This part of the border where I live had 2 agents stationed here, patrolling over 300 miles between the two of them. Since 9/11, there are now 24 agents patrolling that same 300 miles of border, and most of them had originally been posted down in Arizona.

LOL

Athens is a quaint little college town near Atlanta that is home to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Greece is a great place to visit. The historical sites there are simply amazing but the food was disappointing.

Back to the topic of the thread... From your post I Googled the company name and took a look at their fiber optic fence sensor stuff. At the link, you can read through their "sales presentation" as well as read the letter from the USAF that congratulates the company for passing the qualification testing done with the USAF, and the letter also states that capabilities of the fence "should prove to be a valuable United States military asset" for years to come.

I'll have to look further at this story tomorrow. It does appear to have potential to at least catch or stop more than we're getting now.

Thanks for posting the story, mdittmar.
