Best and worst commercials of the year
MSNBC ^ | Aug 22, 2006 | Gael Fashingbauer Cooper

Posted on 08/22/2006 6:50:44 PM PDT by indcons

Only one commercial can top the sheer hatred our readers have for the winner of this year's worst-commercial contest. Yes, only creepy, toenail-snapping Digger the Dermatophyte is more hated than the horrendous repetition that is this year's winning loser, the HeadOn headache remedy commercial.

In case you haven't seen it (you can find it on YouTube, but really, why would you want to?), the commercial is as insanely simple as it is annoying. A female voice repeats "HeadOn: Apply directly to the forehead!" three times as a blissed-out smug woman rolls what appears to be a Bonne Bell LipSmacker on her head.

What in the name of a glue stick in disguise is going on there? First off, does anyone believe that this works any better than, say, rubbing your head with your hand? Who decided that a commercial where only the product name and tagline are repeated over and over was good advertising? What kind of drugs is the model in the ad actually on? And does anyone know anyone who has ever, ever used this product, or seen it for sale anywhere outside these ads?

Kenny is a UNLV (Las Vegas) grad, by the way.

We Nevadans keep track of things like that! :-)

The Dasani water commercials with the dumb goldfish and the gay camel.

Speaking of toes and commercials, have you seen the one for the cartoon Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends? The 'Hot Toe Picker' one? It's horridly stupid and yet everyone in my house goes around saying it.

Dr. Z has to be one of the most irritating characters on TV.

Amen!

Reminds me of the SNL skit with Hugh Hefner. Hef the commander of a long cylindrical spaceship docks with a donut shaped spaceship crewed by women. After the docking the men all fall asleep and the women light up cigarettes on their ship.

"I liked it with the two guys. Then they dumped the funny guy and added an uptight looking woman in his place."

They didn't dump the 2 guys, they just added a husband and wife and also 2 girls. Variety!

Sonic commercials are hilarious! I never turn the channel when they come on.

I'm only at post #250, so I'm not sure if this one has been mentioned:

The absolute WORST commercial on now is for American Airlines Advantage miles. It's a couple who own a store, and in the entry way there is a sensor that rings the doorbell when someone comes in. Some kid sets it off over and over and over (like 20 times I think!). Total overkill, and gives me a bigger headache than "Head On."

Drives me insane, plus if I don't catch it in time to mute it, all 4 of my dogs go berserk thinking there is someone at the door. Grrr!

When I read all the side effects of these drugs, I'd rather have the disease than the cure! So far I've been very blessed not having too many side effects from the drugs I have to take.

I thought at first the one with Burt Bacharach was Lurch from the Addams Family. I don't like this set of Geico commercials.

Glad you like those commercials for Staples...'The Most Wondeful Time of the Year'....whenever I hear that song at Christmastime, my mind always wanders back to the Staples back-to-school commercials...

I like the Broan commercial where the guy keeps flipping a switch and he says "honey it's not working". She is looking in on him from another room and comnments "oh, it's working" as his comb over is drawn straight up into the air by the silent fan above.
