A Day in the Life of President Bush - (photos) - 8.22.06

After calling President Karzai of Afghanistan to discuss security measures and a potential visit, President Bush left the White House early this afternoon to go to Minnesota. In Minnetonka, he participated in a panel discussion on health care, and also signed an Executive Order to help increase the transparency of America's health care system - empowering Americans to find better value and better care. The order will require various federal agencies to compile information about the quality and price of health care they pay for, and share that information with their customers and each other. The White House website has posted a FACT SHEET about this order.

The President also attended a fundraiser for Minnesota Congressional Candidate, State Senator Michele Bachman after the panel discussion, and stopped for a frozen custard in Wayzata.

Some parents dread that driving thing, but I consider it one of the most liberating moments in parenting.

NOW I'm really going out for that walk!!

Some things don't jibe with what the media tells us. They say President Bush is not popular. How can you really determine if that is true. One way is to measure the frequency of his campaign appearances and also measure who is missing among the dignitaries.

President Bush is going out to campaign a day or two a week. That is pretty normal for this time in the election cycle for a popular President. So that leads us to the next question. Who is showing up to be seen and photographed with the President? And the answer is everybody. Do you really think people running for office want to be associated with an unpopular president?

Then they tell us the war is very unpopular. So where are the protesters? The only one I hear about is Cindy Sheehan. We don't see many pictures of Cindy and her followers. Where are the rest of the anti-war protesters? Don't they care? Where are the people protesting the lack of jobs and the economy?

And did you see the latest generic congressional poll? The Gallup poll says the Republicans have pulled within 2 points. And Gallup like all the rest under polls Republicans.

The media may not say it, but the signs I watch all agree.. they say it is a good year to be a Republican.

What exactly do Americans mean by relish because in Britain it is a form of chutney but I know that younger people think of the mild yellow stuff that is put on hot dogs and burgers as relish.

But, But, I thought that Republican candidates did not want the president to campaign with them. Isn't that what the DBM have been telling us for months? Would they try to delude us? /s

'tis a nasty sounding preparation that only a Norwegian could love!

Lutefisk is made from air-dried whitefish (normally cod, but ling is also used), prepared with lye, in a sequence of particular treatments. The first treatment is to soak the stockfish in cold water for five to six days (changed daily). The saturated stockfish is then soaked in an unchanged solution of cold water and lye for an additional two days. The fish will swell during this soaking, regaining a size even bigger than the original (undried) fish, but the protein content paradoxically decreases by more than 50 percent, causing its famous jelly-like consistency. When this treatment is finished, the fish (saturated with lye) has a pH value of 11–12, and is therefore caustic. To make the fish edible, a final treatment of yet another four to six days (and nights) of soaking in cold water (also changed daily) is needed. Eventually, the lutefisk is ready to be cooked.

I know people who put Branston pickle on mashed potato so I suppose that is not a lot of difference.

Since she's out walking, relish here is pickled cucumber seasoned with dill, salt and sugar. It's sweet/tart and green.

Lutefisk is a cod that has been soaked in lye. The vikings used to dry it for their ocean voyages.

Oh I know this thread doesn't flame, just kiddin! I have met people who also don't like chocolate... but not many!

I understand the fascination, though, because like most people are chocolate fiends, I am a vanilla fiend!
