The Missouri Senate race remains one of the closest in the nation. The latest Rasmussen Reports election poll shows Senator Jim Talent (R) with 46% of the vote and Missouri State Auditor Claire McCaskill (D) at 44% (see crosstabs). A month ago, it was McCaskills turn to hold a statistically insignificant edge, 45% to 42%.

BTW, East Saint Louis, IL, has a Black Democrat Mayor who endorsed Bush in '04. Not a stupid man.
I am a New Englander who shares your opinion of Chafee. Unfortunately, Chafee is the ONLY kind of Republican who can come out of Rhode Island, probably the most Democrat state in the Union. I would take that bucket of warm spit (Chafee) in a 50-50 Senate, with Cheney voting to break the deadlock, rather than losing the Senate because Chafee lost his seat. I hate it when politics trumps substance but losing power to the Dems is a worse fate.

I don't expect that it will help his reelection prospects.
You wouldn't think, but it might not matter at all. Carl Officer ran the city for awhile before he made a comeback, so he might be reelected when he's next up (next year).

Nope. Standard old Dem polls that always show the Dem ahead until the end.
