Bob Laurence, TV critic for the San Diego Union-Tribune, sent a letter to Romenesko setting forth a couple of reasons for the scant coverage given to the kidnapping in Gaza of two Fox News journalists (via Michelle):
... Fox has deliberately set itself apart from other news media. Starting at the top with Roger Ailes, the Fox sales pitch has been to deride other media, to declare itself the one source of the real truth, the sole source of 'fair and accurate' news reporting. As a result, there's not a reservoir of kinship or good will with Fox on the part of the rest of the news media. You can't keep insulting people and then expect friendship when you need it.

Then why should the MSM be criticized for not covering it either?!

I'm astounded by your reaction to the kidnapping. Your reaction quoted below totally amazes me. The two men that were kidnapped were not a corporation, they were a journalist and a camerman just doing their jobs. I see them no different than you yet it seems from the quote below in your eyes you are just so much better than them. If there is a next time a journalist is kidnapped from another station don't come crying to the public for sympathy as we now know how selective and biased you are as to which journalist is o.k. to live or die.

You know hes going to bellyache in future column about the "hate mail" received. He's the only one allowed to express his opinion.

Fox news may be downplaying the kidnapping to take away value in the eyes of the kidnappers. That might cause them to let them go. IF they believe they're important, who knows what they may do. I'm sure Fox has their reasons, and there is no doubt in my mind that they are VERY concerned for Steve and the photographer.
To hell with the MSM, I never watch them, never read them, and there are many like me who are abandoning them, as well. They insult my intelligence, and as more and more people surf the net and sift through the info using their own brain and common sense, they too will realize what a crock of propaganda they are.

Because, as Bob Laurence explained, it is not because they fear it will compromise the safety of the 2 men. It is because Fox News isn't "nice." They don't fall in line with the MSM's leftist bias.

I just finished reading your comments regarding FNC and the abduction of one of their reporters and cameraman.
You state that, "You can't keep insulting people and then expect friendship when you need it."A most unique concept of friendship I must say. Most people I know do not barter their "friendship" when someone is in need.
Do you seriously believe that because Mr Centanni and Wiig's work for Fox News Channel they forfeit and are not worthy of the friendship and concern of their media colleagues?
Tell me, who else is NOT worthy of your friendship? How about Daniel Pearl, was he worthy? How about Mike Kelly or David Bloom did they merit your friendship. Surely Bob Woodruff merited your friendship?
I suspect all of these reporters who actually faced danger and in several cases died reporting the news would look upon your comments with the disdain it deserves
