TV Critic:Kidnapping Not Covered Because Fox News "Set Itself Apart" (they die who cares)
NRO ^

Posted on 08/22/2006 3:38:17 PM PDT by hipaatwo

Bob Laurence, TV critic for the San Diego Union-Tribune, sent a letter to Romenesko setting forth a couple of reasons for the scant coverage given to the kidnapping in Gaza of two Fox News journalists (via Michelle):

... Fox has deliberately set itself apart from other news media. Starting at the top with Roger Ailes, the Fox sales pitch has been to deride other media, to declare itself the one source of the real truth, the sole source of 'fair and accurate' news reporting. As a result, there's not a reservoir of kinship or good will with Fox on the part of the rest of the news media. You can't keep insulting people and then expect friendship when you need it.

You stay classy, San Diego.

Exactly the same thing that the Christian Science Monitor did when they had their reporter.

Robert P. Laurence comes across as if he is consumed with jealousy as well as possesses a relatively low IQ.

What worries me is that this doesn't seem to be the usual Palestinian style. They usually give journalists back pretty quickly.

No one has claimed responsibility, that's what is so scarey. No negotiations no nothing.

Exactly. Liberals love to depict themselves as "sensative and caring", but the fact of the matter is, if you are not one of them, you are nothing.

Just look at the way they treat successful conservative blacks and the unborn. They don't really care. They just like to say they do to make them feel good about themselves.

A FNC VP asked the employees, well ordered them not to report on it. Hume has and it was mentioned on F&F this weekend. I mean would you use your "family" members for ratings? I would not.

I like writing with my blood boiling. I find that my sardonic comments are sharper then. For example:

You can just feel the warm fuzzies you exude in your diatribe against Fox News regarding two men who may face death. Must be nice to have that level of care for a fellow journalist and a cameraman who ARE willing to risk their life, while you just sit in your comfy chair and criticize others. If you have such a low regard for your fellow human beings, fellow American citizens, then who would want friendship from you.

Sincerely,

Richard Pinnell

Re: Kidnapping of Steve Centanni and Fox cameraman

Mr. Laurence:

There is still right and wrong. Let me help:

1. it is wrong to kidnap anyone. It is not wrong only if you work for CNN, MSNBC, The Christian Science Monitor, NYT etc.

2.it is wrong not to speak out about injustices by one to another - period. That is the backbone of a civilized society.

Now get about the business of effecting their release - they are innocents caught in the crossfire. Rise to the occasion, sir.

I guess in the minds of those who work for the drive by media, it's insulting when Fox tells the TRUTH about the lies the MSM have tried to pass of for years.

And since we have two kidnapped people (who are very possibly dead) who work for FNC, it shows an utter lack of class for this lowlife to deride Fox with regard to this matter.

In the meantime two lives are at stake! Leave it to a liberal.

If I were one of the two, that is the last thing I would want.

" You can't keep insulting people and then expect friendship when you need it."

Slugs. No American I know would barter "friendship when you need it" for the lives of two other Americans. Slugs.
