Lech Walesa has left the Solidarity trade union movement he founded and led during its struggle against communism in the 1980s. |
|
Mr Walesa said he would not attend the ceremonies to mark the 26th anniversary of Solidarity later this month. |
|
He said he was in disagreement with his former political allies, President Lech Kaczynski and his twin brother, Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski. |
|
A year ago Mr Walesa hinted he was planning to quit Solidarity. "This is no longer my union. This is a different era, different people, different problems," he said during celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of the movement last August. Anniversary boycott |
|
Mr Walesa, who won the 1983 Nobel Peace Prize, has not been a member of the trade union since the beginning of the year, it was revealed on Tuesday. |
|
"He has not been paying membership fees since the end of last year," a leading Solidarity member, Jerzy Borowczak, told the AFP news agency. Mr Walesa said he did not like the policies of the Kaczynski brothers and would boycott Solidarity's anniversary celebrations so he would not have to appear with them, the BBC's Adam Easton reports from Warsaw. Mr Walesa once fired the twins when they worked as his advisers while he was president in the 1990s. "His approach is to first destroy and then think about what to build," Mr Walesa said last month of the country's current president, Lech Kaczynski. Main disagreement The main point of disagreement is the new policy to make public all the files of the former communist secret police. Until now only members of the government and parliament had to declare whether they had any connection to the former security services. "I didn't like their conspiracy theories. They were always suspecting people," Mr Walesa said about the Kaczynski twins. Critics warn that the so-called transparency legislation might turn into a witch-hunt. More than half a million Poles, whose names appear in the secret archives, could face vetting. |
And now governing coalition has the highest crime rates in the whole world. One of coalition members - Samoobrona - consist of thieves, hooligans, alcoholics and road pirates. Main "guru" of the goverment - father Rydzyk of Radio Maryja - embezzled lots of money given by people to save Gdansk Shipyard. And you dare to call this situation "Great Moral Catharsis"?
Not possible!
hahaha :D
In 1950, I have -29years ;)
Yes, I have.
Your antichristian remarks full of hatred are characteristic for hard-line communists like cpt.Piotrowski who murdered father Popieluszko.
Show me just one example of my antichristian remarks you moron. I'm a catholic and never said anything against Catholic Church. And don't compare me to the comunists as you and your PiS have more in common with them than I do!
With your communist views there's no place for you here.
I am as same communist as Ronald Reagan was. Don't write such things - becouse of people (?) like you the world is laughing at us
You are typical PO supporter - watching TVN24 and reading Urban's Nie. Even that rag Nie doesn't use such language against the Catholic church anymore.
Yes, I watch TVN24. And no, I do not read Nie. If do not see any difference between leftist and liberal - I'm not surprised. Knowledge is not your strong side. Please keep watching TV Trwam and get used to radio - with fanatics like you I won't be surprised if internet will be banned soon as a tool of satan.
Those whom give him these money agreed to spent on something else. I didnt heard about anybody who demanded money back, however as I remember Rydzyk promised to give back cash if somebody wants. So, dont be more saint than pope, GW was the source of this scandal.
People gave you freedom and dignity and don't you forget about this. As for saving Gdansk Shipyard - it would be better to sell it to someone with money who does not hear what unions say - I live in Gdansk and work in one of private shipyards. There is golden time for shipyards these days but Gdansk Shipyard is on the edge of bankruptcy... :(
