Ginny Adwell, Kelsey's mother and the school's PTA president, said some parents who called for Holden to be fired were "going a little bit overboard" and should remember that the teacher was trying to provoke thought. If the teacher believed that flag burning was WRONG, he would not have done it. He's trying to provoke attention on the issue of flag burning. End game, make people feel guilty about being upset over it.
The article from the Louisville paper (linked from within the FoxNews article) says that they acknowledge it could be offensive to military families. Dammit, it can be offense to ANY American.

No, according to FoxNews, this idjit has been working for Jefferson County Schools since 1979.

They call it "empathy" when they force every student to stand up and say "I am gay". We know it as indoctrination.
Diversity training is nothing but political reeducation.
Seeing the response to a deliberate provocation can also be educational.

Makes you wonder just how many teachers have burned flags in class since George W. Bush was elected president.

He burned two US flags. Interesting that he didn't burn any other flags (like say, the Mexican flag?) But that would have offended the hispanics in the class....

Is this the same teacher who was teaching sixth grade in California when he burned an inch of an American flag in class after 9-11 and told his students "don't tell"?Wow, what a dolt! I can't think of a faster way to spread information than to tell a room full of 6th graders "don't tell".

Or perhaps burning the F9/11 so called documentary.
Ooooh....I like that one! We could all stick a F9/11 CD in our microwaves and send them to Michael Moore.

How about starting class with a Bible verse or a prayer to stimulate thought regarding the First Amendment.

It's bad for your microwave.
And why add to his coffers?
You could stage an act of defiance and do that with the public library's copy? Your tax dollars already paid for it and perhaps the fine would be used to buy something more instructive?

Dan Holden, a seventh-grade social studies teacher at Stuart Middle School, burned two flags Friday as part of a lesson on freedom of speech, said Jefferson County schools spokeswoman Lauren Roberts said. If he wanted to be really controversial, he should have read the "Sermon on the Mount". He probably didn't want to get sued and fired though.

One of my daughter's new teachers this year has a Michael Moore poster up in his classroom and already said he wanted them to see Gore's movie. I told her I'm not paying for her to see that tripe.
Meet the teacher night is coming up. I can't wait to meet this one.

the 10 Commandments, The Pledge, and the writings of Our Forefathers should be in every classroom. It's what this Country was founded on. But We the People wouldn't want to Offend Any of the (SARC) wanna be Americans who fly the Mexican and Hezzy flags.
