Pinging some of my fellow helicopter parents

I think you misunderstand the term "helicopter parents". THere is a difference in being an involved parent, knowing where your kids are, who their friends are, etc. AND
Parents who hover, smother, control, make every decision for their children, and in effect stunt their growth. I know a few of these parents. THOSE are helicopter parents.

The first time the daughter went out with her cell phone and she called home to tell us where she was and when she would be home, I hung up and realized that now I didn't KNOW where she was - only where she said she was.......the caller ID showed her number all right, but I preferred it when it showed the land line from where she called and I KNEW she was where she said she would be. If I had the money, I would use the device.
