Displaying signs that said, ARCHBISHOP NORBERTO, HELL IS WAITING ON YOU, and a sign that said, GOD IS NOT PANISTA, dozens of protesters tried to push their way into the Cathedral in downtown Mexico City
So I can understand better, would you tell me what "panista" means?
Panista is the right leaning party, similar to Republicans, with close ties to the Catholic Church. The Panista candidate was the only candidate that came out on a strong platform against abortion on demand. Really, seems like the rowdy crowd could leave the poor archbishop alone and let him preach his sermon on Sunday without intimadation. The Zocalo where they are camped is across the street from the Cathedral.
The previous post explains who PANistas are. To add and to answer precisely, "PAN" stands for the National Action Party. The other majors include PRD (Democratic Revolutionary Party) and PRI (Revolutionary Institutional Party). PRI was THE dominant party for about 70 years until Fox was elected in 2000 as a PANista. AMLO is the PRD candidate, that party being strongly leftist. It is affiliated with/part of the "Coalition of the Good of All." (Yes, it does sound Orwellian.)
Thank you both for your answers. It helps a lot in understanding politics in Mexico.
Disgusting, irreverent pigs! IOW, typical leftists.
