Treasury Department freezes the generals' U.S.-based assets
Washington The U.S. Treasury Department August 15 froze the U.S.-based assets of two Syrian generals as a result of their support for terrorist organizations and their contributions to Syrias military occupation of Lebanon.
In his position with Syrias General Intelligence Directorate, Major General Hisham Ikhtiyar contributed to Syrias policies in Lebanon and provided support for Hezbollah, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC), and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), the Treasury says.
Another Syrian military chief, Brigadier General Jama'a Jama'a, served as commander of Syrian military intelligence in Beirut.
Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorist Financing Pat OBrien said Syria has promoted instability and violence in the region for decades.
Until Syria takes concrete steps to become a responsible member of the international community, the United States will make known rogue actors supporting the country's destabilizing agenda, he said.
The executive order under which the generals are designated allows the Treasury Department to freeze the assets of anyone in Syria providing support to terrorist organizations, contributing to Syrias presence in Lebanon, pursuing weapons of mass destruction or working to undermine U.S. stabilization efforts in Iraq. The order also prohibits U.S. persons from doing business with the designated parties. (See related article.)
The full text of a press release on the designation is available on the Treasury Department Web site.

This non-reporting, all silent crap, is getting real old.
Great, now that we know who they are, let's kill them.
Jama'a Jama'a just got some Karma Karma
gee who would have thought two syrian generals were also terrorist... no it just cant be! /sarc
The Bush Doctrine is looking pretty damn pathetic these days... sanctions against individual generals. How much in assets would a Syrian general have in the US, anyway?
Bush Doctrine? What Bush Doctrine?
You must mean his policy of "with us or against us", and his policy of not negotiating with terrorists or state supporters of terrorists. Sorry, but after this administration's disgraceful actions in throwing Israel under a bus in regards to Lebanon/Hezbollah I'd say that the Bush Doctrine is dead and buried. What a crock.
If you don't think that this is a war then I don't know what to tell you.
I didn't say anything about us bombing Damascus. What I am saying is that it is a complete disgrace that this administration forced Israel into accepting what amounts to defeat against Hezbollah/Lebanon; especially after years of big talk from Bush about how terrorists and their supporters will be hunted down. To make Israel accept this sham of a deal, where the so called UN peacekeepers and Lebanese army aren't even required to do anything to disarm Hezbollah, is scandalous. I have absolutely had it with this administration. Flame away.
The Israelis have given in to international demands time and time again and what has it gotten them? Only the expectation that this is what they are supposed to do all the time. And if you think that UN 'peacekeepers' will be ambushed by Hezbollah you are very naive. Even if they are, Hezbollah/Lebanon will place all of the blame for it on Israel, and the UN/'international community' will go right along with blaming Israel for breaking the 'peace'.
Regardless, none of this takes away from the fact that this whole situation has exposed the massive hypocrisy of the Bush administration. Imagine if the US, after 9/11, was forced to accept a cease fire with the Taliban and al Qaeda that did absolutely nothing to disarm them, nor did nothing to guarantee against further attacks. The mere thought of it is ridiculous. Now explain to me why we forced Israel to do what amounts to basically the same thing.
Interesting that you should make that point. There is a good article in the August 28 National Review by a writer named Michael Rubin that makes that very point. However, past presidents have precluded us from using assassination. This needs to be rethought on high. The islamofascistallies (a.k.a. the democrats) won't like it, but they don't like anything anyway unless its surrender.
A simmple clean solution.
Like pressure from our government had nothing to do with that. There was really not much else they could have done.
Ummmm, I think the real trick is to ID two Syrian Genrerals who are NOT terrorist supporters.
I consider this an embarassing demonstration of a complete lack of will to confront the obvious. Who do you think Syrian generals take orders from? Mickey Mouse?
