If you want sharia law, you should go and live in Saudi Arabia [Brit muslim speaks out]
The Times (UK) ^ | August 20, 2006 | by Shahid Malik

Last Tuesday, after a 90-minute meeting with John Prescott, the deputy prime minister, to discuss the challenges of extremism and foreign policy, I emerged and was immediately asked by the media whether I agreed that what British Muslims needed were Islamic holidays and sharia (Islamic law). I thought I had walked into some parallel universe.

Sadly this was not a joke. These issues had apparently formed part of the discussion the day before between Prescott, Ruth Kelly, the communities minister, and a selection of “Muslim leaders”. I realised then that it wasn’t me and the media who were living in a parallel universe — although certain “Muslim leaders” might well be.

Maybe some of these “leaders” believed that cabinet ministers were being alarmist, that the terror threat posed by British extremists was exaggerated. Maybe they thought that the entire plot and threat were the “mother of all smokescreens”, a bid to divert our attention from the killing fields of Lebanon. Or maybe it was another symptom of that epidemic that is afflicting far too many Muslims: denial. Out of touch with reality, frightened to propose any real solutions for fear of “selling out”, but always keen to exact a concession — a sad but too often true caricature of some so-called Muslim leaders.

Other members of the Muslim community I am sure would have cringed as I did when listening to Dr Syed Aziz Pasha, secretary-general of the Union of Muslim Organisations of the UK and Ireland, who explained his demand for sharia and more holidays: “If you give us religious rights we will be in a better position to convince young people that they are being treated equally along with other citizens.” He has done much good work over the years but ...

When in Rome, do as the Romans. When a Roman in a foreign land, don't expect Roman culture and laws just to suit you while the non-Romans comprise the majority.

Well, actually, back in those days, when in Rome, you did as the Romans did and when the Romans were in a foreign land anywhere near the Mediterranean, the foreigners also did as the Romans did ...... or else.

Rome, unlike the West today, was not Politically Correct and was not squeamish about using its power.

But-but-but you don't understand. ALL the world is to become Muslim.

Just one way on that ratchet wrench too. You can turn Muslim, but once Muslim, you cannot ever turn back. Islam reserves the right to kill you then, all in the name of honor, you understand.

And even if you are already Muslim, if you waver at all in your religious fervor, or express it wrongly, Islam STILL reserves the right to kill you, again all in the name of honor.

All I could add, it is a strange sort of honor, to die for arcane and undetectable differences in doctrine. Look at what Hezbollah Shi'ites do to Wahhabist Sunnis, and vice versa.

Wonder how long it will take for Islamic death squads to catch up to this guy and punish him?

Give them an inch and they'll take a mile.

I think the phrase you are looking for is about not letting the camel get its nose in the tent...

from a review of "Londonistan" by Melanie Phillips:

The suicide bombings carried out in London in 2005 by British Muslims revealed an alarming network of home-grown terrorists and their sympathizers. Somehow, London had become the European hub for the promotion, recruitment and financing of Islamic terror and extremism -- so much so that it was mockingly dubbed "Londonistan" by exasperated European security forces. Now, British investigative journalist Melanie Phillips reveals how widespread Muslim immigration into Great Britain, and the country's paralysis by multiculturalism and fear, has created a fifth column of jihadists plotting against the West from deep inside its bosom.

Londonistan paints a picture of a country so terrified of giving offense to its Muslim minority that it has been cowed by radical clerics. Institutions across British society -- the judiciary, security circles, the Church of England, the universities, the media -- have all been reduced to silence or appeasement. With the resulting license to incite hatred and terror, London's mosques have churned out literally thousands of foot soldiers in Islamic terrorism's war against the West -- including shoe-bomber Richard Reid, 9/11 plotter Zacarias Moussaoui, and the British Muslims who perpetrated last year's hideous London Underground and bus bombings that killed 52 people.

The result, Phillips shows, is an ugly climate in Britain of fear and defeatism, which now threatens to undermine the alliance with America and imperil the defense of the free world. In the end, she argues, British authorities are walking the same path as those who capitulated to Adolf Hitler -- a strategy that is as likely to earn peace as Neville Chamberlain's.

But Rome often respected local custom, culture and religion. You could usually keep and practice your traditions, just as long as you added worship of the emperor and Roman gods to your own faith. This "tolerance" - backed by the mighty legions - is one reason the empire was so successful for so long.

I remember reading that they converted people to the use of Roman Numerals by the point of the sword!

III + I = IV or death!

They don't want to go to Saudi Arabia. They want Great Britain and the rest of the West to be Islamic nations, ruled by Islamic fundamentalists.

Muslims want sharia law in the paradise that is the western world. They want the amenities, the technology, the medical arts, the material abundance, without the effort required to acheive them. Parasites.

What is really funny is the same sort of thing happens when city people move to the country. First thing they want to do is change the way we do things so we are more citified.
