Always! If it were medically possible, I'd volunteer to bear her children!

However, it doesn't mean she was right that time.

Rumsfeld was Ford's SecDef. But Ford had nothing to do with the outcome in Vietnam nor did his SecDef.

The Democrats totally controlled every other aspect of gov. but the WH, and they literally cut off funding for anything, anything at all to do with the Vietnam War. There was no money left to do anything but get out.

And with the war effort having been ruined by years of Dem malfeasance, and with deep anger stirred by the media against Nixon's bombing campaign into the sanctuaries of N. Vietnam and Cambodia, the American people in the thrall of Dan Rather and Walter Cronkite et al, with their campuses in turmoil and Nat'l Guard shooting students in Ohio, etc., just wanted to be done with it. They no longer cared WHAT happened in Vietnam or Cambodia or Laos.

Please take note, that there is in the American Military doctrine something called...How To Fight Counterinsurgency Warfare. That is what the military decided was happening in Iraq, and they set about to apply their counterinsurgency doctrine to this situation.

Donald Rumsfeld had no part in causing what happened in Vietnam, period. Read a history book of nothing but the facts, for crying out loud. And Donald Rumsfeld did not invent US Military Counterinsurgency Doctrine, or decide in a vacuum to apply it in Iraq.

The US Military did. And the US Military is advising the President and Rumsfeld that this is what is needed in Iraq, as well as to turn the fight over to the Iraqi forces.

We could arrange to duke it out if they all show up on a specific date on a particular South Pacific atoll.

Without some sort of religion, there is no basis for morality, and your wonderful scientific world will collapse. The problems with religion only involve the phony ones like I-slam and evolutionism.

This gets worse and worse.

We criticize the Europeans for not making enough of an effort to assimlate these people. They CAN'T be assimilated.

They don't WANT to be assimilated.

If only a few hundred miles of ocean separated us from them we would be in the same position as Europe. The government here refuses to deal with the army of illegals invading America and taking it over. They refuse to call a spade a spade and shut down the mosques and madrassehs in America and deport these people here.

Its frightening and pathetic.

Everytime there is another attempt by these nutcases to kill Americans we respond with ever more restrictive regulations regarding our lives and they explore and attempt fresh new options. The only clear, logical and sane solution is to expel them and ban them from staying here. You don't cure a disease by just targeting the symptoms.

All American incumbents and candidates should be approached and asked to sign a condemnation of Sharia Law and declare their oppostion to its imposition here in America and their philosophical opposition to it in other countries. Only that way can we separate the sheep from the goats.

We need an anti_Islamic league in AMerica which is dedicated to countering CAIR and their clones and educating the American public about the Koran, Haddiths, and Muslim practices and teachings - clearly the media and educational institutions are not.

Claus Fuchs (the geratest traitor since Judas) and the Greenwood guy and others sent diagrams, drawings periodicaly from the Manhattan project to the soviets. Our Manhattan project was so compromised it was a one way street for communist infiltration. The double agent physicists would openly have their meetings in Albequerque, NM (near Los Alamos) so they could transfer information back to the soviet embassy in DC.

When the Soviets didn't understand something, the head of their spy program would send a question to Los Alamos and sometimes would receive a reply in 72 hours.

Check out cold war information published by CNN.

I think it was either the Military or History channel that had the real "Black Hawk Down" story... the most compelling thing I saw was each and every special ops gentleman stated emphatically, "we didn't have a problem being there, we had a problem with NOT being able to do our job, and complete it. We would have leveled the Somali's entirely the next day. The media did us a great disservice by NOT showing what they did to our men. And our government, (KLINTOON), let the Somali's and others to believe, just kill some Americans and they will leave. We were ordered out of the area the next day." Sad, and a disgrace. Let the Muslims try that here and they will unleash an armagedon they never dreamed of.

Rumsfeld is a pencil-pushing, bean-counter who's experience in running a war was to be one of the cogs left over to implement Nixon's back-handed admission of failure (i.e. Vietnamization). Rumsfeld is a product of his times; he learned failure wouldn't get you fired, particularly if you can blame previous administrations. His plan for the war in Iraq amounted to: show up, scare the hell out them, let the Iraqi people do the rest, and oh, keep the cost down.

Just because he's entertaining and knows how to foil the press, doesn't make him a military genius. Seeking military advice from most of the other "leaders" in this country (Kerry, McCain, Cleland, just to start with) is similarly dumb; they were on the losing side, after all. While more is often learned from failure than success, the failure of that generation in war has left them scarred. The lesson they learned is not "fight to win", but rather "if I had it all to do over again, I would have stayed home and got stoned".

We won't even get into the other failure (Colin Powell) who flubbed the diplomatic parts of the run-up to war (insisting on going to the UN, not getting "permission" from the Turks to use OUR OWN bases), which necessitated a deviation of the orignal plan; an assault from north and south, that would have squeezed most of the "insurgent" elements we're dealing wiht now right out of the war. When we couldn't launch a North/South invasion, the plan simply became "race hell-bent for leather to Baghdad, forget prisoners, let them run away, wait for the expected internal revolt and welcoming of Americans as liberators".

Bad plan, all the way around.

While it is true that Rumsfeld did not run the war in 1965 and beyond, the fact remains that when he was in a position of authority responsible for the conduct of the war (or what was left of it), knew the US Army was still regularly lying about victory, and knew that is was still concealing the fact that it knew the war was lost. And thorugh it all, he continued to put a smiley face on a policy designed to shield the American public from it, until the fall of Saigon made it painfully obvious. He is repeating his performance vis-a-vis Iraq.

You misunderstand me. I don't mean to say that the abscence of religion would usher in a more peaceful world. Far from it. Everything from the "unwritten laws" of western culture, to our legal systems, to our political institutions is permeated by religion.

What I meant to imply (perhaps badly) is that until the Muslim mind has been freed from slavish devotion to superstition and religous claptrap (the Koran dictates every aspect of a Muslim's life, from which hand he wipes his backside with to how a government is set up and operates), it cannot hope to reconcile itself to the modern world.

That is the crux of the problem, even more than Islam, in some respects: the Arabs suddenly woke up and found themselves in the 20th century about 50 or so years ago, and they haven't been able to deal with it. They want what we have: color TV, delivery pizza, Led Zepplin, Hospitals, anti-biotics, true Universities, clean running, water and 500 channels of useless crap on cable TV. What they can't reconcile is: a) where it comes from, and, b) some of the behaviors/conventions that come with them.

Ask an Iraqi construction worker if he wants HDTV and 500 channels of crap, and he'll tell you, "HELL YEAH!". However, that HDTV allows him to be informed. It allows him to hear, see and experience ideas that are proscribed by the Koran, and thus, both a sin and under Sharia law, illegal. Even ESPN would be banned because they show western women playing tennis in short dresses. It's not the technology that scares them as much as the potential to wreck their culture that comes with it that scares them.

And that is where religion must be divorced from the argument. Because that technology has the potential to open new worlds to that construction worker, to impart new ideas to him, to appeal to human nature. Islam cannot allow that to happen and still survive both as a religion and a system.

That is the conflict at the foundation of fundamentalist Islam (even more so than "We hate Jews"),and it can only be reconciled when human nature is allowed to ride roughshod over orthodoxy. That is what I mean by "who needs religion" in terms of this debate.

You make a mistake of believing the "secret" of the atomic bomb was the "science". It wasn't. The science had been worked out by Einstein and others by the mid-1930's.

The "secret" of the bomb (what he Manhattan Project was all about!) was how to mass-produce and package the weapons. Yes, a lot of scientific reasearch was carried out during those years, but the main thrust of the Manhattan Project was put into creating the infrastructure to produce the bomb.

And yes, while there was espionage that gave some of those secrets to the Soviets, the fact of the matter is, they were already looking into this themselves for a very long time. Russia (and later the Soviet Union) has a long history of excellence in physics and other sciences, mathematics, engineering, etc. They knew how to make a bomb (or could work out the process just like Oppenheimer did). What they didn't know was how to mass-produce bombs.

And,please! CNN as a CREDIBLE source?

Here it is, quite clear! This is what they want! Will our spineless elected officials take heed and do what must be done (expel the members of the ideology of death and destruction).

Its enough to make me hurl.

JOhn HOward recently made a speech saying (Paraphrasing):

"We dont ask you why you want to believe what you believe, and youre free to make your own choices. But if you want to impose your beliefs on others, if you want to impose shariah, australia is not for you, and you should make your home in another part of the planet. Take advantage of another great australian freedom. THE FREEDOM TO LEAVE"

Its time someone in england made this speech.

What if this same privately funded anti-Islamofascist terrorist elimination unit would bomb Mecca?

Well, obviously not being state sponsored, we would deny
any connection, Too bad, so sad.

Maybe it was the will of Allah working through kafir hands?

I have about decided that a privately funded anti-Islamofacists terrorist elimination unit is in order.

Great idea. Something like "fight fire with fire"!

Give the women/children/elderly and infirm 24 hours to get out through carefully-controlled corridors. Then give the men 24 hours to get out, in the same fashion.

Nope. If they are harboring the terrorists and not doing anything to fend them off or fight for the Americans, they are no better than the citizes of Dresden and they deserve the same fate.

No warning. Cordon the city off and level it.

Your analysis is excellent. Try sending it to the New York Times

Very good analysis, and a timely comment. Just today, the NYT's weak sister affiliate Boston Globe ran an article in its Sunday opinion Ideas section about the wonderful "deeply civic-minded and socially engaged" Muslim community in America. The front-page article features a large full-color photo of a group of Muslim high school students in Dearborn, Michigan looking for all the world like the Backstreet Boys fan club.

Expert opinion (from an ex-CIA officer), and (surprise!) Zogby polls are used to demonstrate the lack of a domestic Muslim terror threat in the US. The article itself refers dismissively to "what have been called domestic terror cells", and "purported terrorists". The presence of (some) radical impulses and failure of assimilation are both admitted to, but are presented as the fault of the US because of its support for the war in Iraq and of Israel.

So, in summary, the Globe thinks American Muslims are no threat because they are wealthier than their European counterparts - if Osama is alive, he'll get a good chuckle out of that one - and that a trend toward radicalism on behalf of American Muslims, if it occurs, will be Bush's fault. I kid you not.
