Weekend Talk Show Preview - Analysis for August 19th and 20th
A quick note about the show web sites. MTP's web site has excellent resources and links to provide background on the guests and they're tending to get it posted earlier on Fridays than they used to. I want to commend Fox for the new Coming Up on FOX News Sunday feature on their web site. It gives a good overview and intro to the show. Maybe they've been reading our stuff? ABC is doing a good job of posting on their site, including a semi informative intro beyond just the simple listing, but not much further background on the guests or topics. CBS Face The Nation is at least posting their line up and guests in a timely fashion, but it is the most bare bones web site of the Sunday shows. There's literally nothing beyond the absolute minimum about the show topic and guests. I don't think they've figured out this newfangled internet thingy yet, nor the concept of actually informing people with their content. Lil Timmah's Saturday show posting is even less than that and is just an afterthought on the MTP site. The Fox Saturday shows were very late posting this week and they still have almost no useful information. Maybe they should start reading our stuff?
I missed the announced appearance last week on CNN Late Edition by Vali Nasr and the transcript of that show appears to omit any references to him.. He now appears to be making his second (announced) appearance on the Sunday shows in just two weeks, this time on Meet The Press. Based on the info I've researched about him I'm very interested in what he has to say (and what the DBM is trying to spin it to mean). He seems to be a voice to pay attention to in order to figure out what's really going on "over there." Based on the news stories I've found about him I will go out of my way to try to see him on MTP this week, even if that does mean suffering through John McCain (he's running for President, you know). And Barry McCaffrey is simply a joke. He's now styling himself as an expert on airport security. Didn't he almost start world war 3 with the Russians in Bosnia over an airport? Yeah, he's the one I want in charge of airport security.
It looks like Fox will take a serious look at airport security with a serious voice on the subject, former head of Israeli airport security, Rafi Ron, and a very unserious politician, Chuck Hagel (he's running for President, you know). Rand Beers is a Richard Clarke wanna be, and Pete King runs hot and cold on these shows, so they'll be a mixed bag, I'm sure. The panel looks good this week, especially since Brit is back! No Juan, but Anne Kornblut of the NY Times is on, so I bet there's a smack down anyway. Woohoo!
Face The Nation had Lamont last week so this week they're having Lieberman on (he ran for Vice President, you know). Watch for a sad interview focusing on how much pain he is causing in the party that he should be loyal to. Jim VandeHei will be presenting yet another lesson in how the Democrats should be running their campaign in order to regain their rightful places of power, while proclaiming certain doom for the Republicans.
ABC This week has the one, the only, John F. Kerry (he's running for President, you know). Between he and the roundtable we'll get an earful of MoveOn.ORG talking points with nary a peep of rebuttal. Fareed Zakaria is now the darling of the left, after he said that Donald Rumsfeld Seems in a parallel universe and slightly deranged on this show back in July. He, Cokie, the two Georges and their guest Bush Basher, the Washington Post's Robin Wright, will compete to who can have the most vicious sound bite explaining just how bad George W. Bush is for the world as they know it.
The Saturday shows are holding to their tried and true patterns. Fred and Mort continued reprising old Saturday Night Live skits. Tim Russert interviews yet another Bush Basher for his own amusement (I don't think he's hawking a book this time, but Carlin has a new CD). Fox News Watch plays more circle the wagons against the new media and will ignore the continuing revelations of fraud and grotesque bias across their entire profession. The Journal Editorial Report has the author of Londonistan, a book that tells the truth and is therefore causing much angst in the Muslim and leftist communities in the UK and elsewhere. Here is someone who actually tells truth to power and the multiculturalists denounce her and want her book suppressed. That should be an interesting show this week.
The main themes are the Democrat's newest campaign idea (number 98) of trying to convince everyone that George W. Bush has made the world less stable and that we are therefore more in more danger, not less. They seem to be gaining some traction with the notion that things are scary out there, but not with the idea that they are the answer. In the long run this will probably turn out to have been a bad idea. I mean, c'mon, with John Kerry in the forefront, how serious can anyone take them?
All of the above is simply my humble opinion, so have at it.
The individual shows are posted below, with the Saturday shows first, then individual posts on each of the Sunday shows.
This is cross posted at my blog on Townhall.com (analysis post only here). This post exists primarily as a heads up for who is on the weekend talks shows, what they've been invited on to push (based on their recent pronouncements) and the spin (meme) the DBM is likely trying to push based on that information. All of this is prep work for the weekly Sunday Morning Talk Show thread posted by Alas Babylon!. That thread provides a live commentary and analysis of the Sunday talking head shows, with rare insight and exceptional fact checking. we are the Jedi Council of FreeRepublic, at least in regards to these DBM gabfests. You wanna know what was said and what it meant, as well as where they messed up? Read that thread!
I will also post a link to Mark Kilmer's excellent preview over at RedState.COM when it is up. I'll post a link to this Sunday's live thread here when it is up.
Don't apologize too much about McCaffery...
I saw him on Hairball last night....and I don't think he could come off as more of a Chrissy Matthews syncophant if he tried..
He had this nasty sneer on his face when talking about EVERTHING the President Bush has done since he was elected in 2000.
He and Chrissy went down a list of "sinful quotes" by Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Powell..et. al...in the run up to the war in Iraq...that they are sure have been "proven totally false, and lies"...
Chrissy then pointed his finger and said "and we have every one of the quotes on video, docutmented"..or some such (the spittle was just flying, btw)....he had a look of hate like I hadn't seen since he found out Rove wasn't getting indicted.
BUT..BUT, what Chrissy doesn't want to admit is...his "idols", like Clinton, Kerry, EDWARDS...are all on video and documented prior to the war also...and yet NOW they are coming out with the totally unprincipaled campaign saying, "it doesn't matter that I didn't know what I was talking about 4 years ago..boy do I know what I am talking about now, so TRUST ME"
Seems the Democrats are phsyco. 1st they are telling us NO one cares about Terrorism any more. THEN they want to RUN on the absrud notion that THEY have a better idea what to do. OK, WHAT is the Democrat's plan for fighting the War On Terrorism?
Waiting......waiting......waiting.....?
Hmm so far all I am hearing is the Democrats want the USA to the US to make an Unconditional Surrender to the Terrorists right NOW Now!
Honest to go watching politics these days makes me wonder if I somehow woke up in the Twilight Zone.
Do do, DO DO do do.... At the Sign post up ahead, Its the NO BRAIN zone.
A lot of those containers are ssearched overseas, but since that doesn't give employment to the longshoreman's union, the fiction has been created that the shipping containers aren't being scrutinized.
In case you've forgotten, a few months ago the democrats were harping on port security and telling us we were spending to much time on aircraft safety! I think THOSE are quotes we need to dig up.
Always look at how the democrats appear to the uneducated voter. That's who they are targeting, not people who know how container shipping works.
Why, federal employees, in a new federal bureaucracy, paid for by taxing "the rich," of course.
Oh, and cutting out all of that money wasted on the evil military...
No, no one ever does. The dim just says "we are only inspecting x% of the containers" and leaves it at that. I want SOMEONE to PLEASE ask what is the correct percentage, what is the safe percentage, how many people will it take and what will it cost? Nor do I ever hear anyone mention that these things get inspected at the ports of origination and ask whether they think that intransit switches of cargo are likely. Drives me nuts.
Any democrat issue should be looked at in this way. Wal Mart? How much more should they pay employees? What would it do to the profitability of the company? What do Target and K-Mart pay?
No one ever asks questions like this, and that is what is needed.
You are both informative and FUNNY!
Thanks for making it easy for the rest of us--great work.
The Sunday Morning Talk Shows - preview
MTP, FNS, FTN, TW, and LE
By Mark Kilmer
For Sunday, August 20, 2006
Meet the Press (NBC): Host Tim Russert has as his guest: John McCain ('08).FOX News Sunday (FNS): Host Chris Wallace talks to an airline security panel: Representative Peter King (R-New York); Rafi Ron, an Israeli aiport security expert; and former Clinton NSA guy Rand Beers, a buddy of Dick "Book Tour Testimony" Clarke and Joe "I Outed My Wife" Wilson and an advisor to the erstwhile '04 Kerry campaign.
Face the Nation (CBS): Host Bob Schieffer interviews Joltin' Joe Lieberman (D-Connecticut), who's running for reelection to his Senate seat despite having los his party's nomination by 10,000 votes.
This Week (ABC): Host George Stephanopoulos talks to Kerry. Then to British Home Secretary John Reid. The Spike Lee (remember him?) hawks a flick.
Late Edition (CNN): Host Wolf Blitzer chats with Iraqi Industry Minister Fawzi al-Hariri and later with Arlen Specter and Diane Feinstein.
-----"McCain, Kerry -- Kerry, McCain."
It's interesting to see that CBS is not foolish enough to burn bridges with Connecticut's frontunner after clueless Ned pulled his 10,000-vote upset, and I'd like to here register an objection to FOX News for trucking out Rand Beers to fill airtime.
And (Phsstpok) has his weekly Weekend Talk Show Preview over at Free Republic.

Which is another example of why we no longer have any Journalists in this country. THAT would be the 1st stuff a real Jounrlist would be looking into instead of just mindlessly repeating the spin. The Democrats now simply take it for granted that the Junk Media will cover their political behind flapping in the breeze on stuff like this.
He has been all over Fox all week. I don't know what he is saying because I mute him.
I am going to have my granddaughter for the night..and so I probably won't get to see the shows in the morning..
Actually, since all of the guests are "regulars" I pretty much know what all will say anyway.
But, I notice that Wolfie is having on Specter...I HOPE I can get to the TV by then...even though I know he is going to make me furious about that NSA decision.
Funny thing, though...Fox News is saying today that quite a few experts are shooting holes in that decision...ssoooooo...which way does Specter react tomorrow??
ALSO..if Specter carries on about needing a LAW, blah, blah...remember, the haters keep saying that Bush can't do anything re: the war, from Crawford..
Therefore, since we ARE at war...I would like Wolfie to ask Specter why the Congress doesn't come back early to actually WRITE the law that they expect Bush to follow.
OH..and HAPPY BILL CLINTON'S 60th BIRTHDAY!!!!!!! LOL
Sleuthie, you are eeeeviiilll. I turned the tv off after the first reference to it. If Specter wants to retain his reputation as a legal scholar (LOL, made myself laugh), he will indicate his disagreement, respectfully, of course, with that Diggs Taylor piece of garbage.
I have a felling Specter will go the "wrong" way...because I see Specter as an old, resentful Senator..that wants the power that Bush has...and will do anything to try to elevate himself into that "spere"...even if it means damaging America, and the GOP party...
I just pray that the GOP in Penn. is paying attention.
Arlen needs to feel like he is a big deal. Doesn't say much for him.
I am curious about just how much Specter has been "under the tent".
I have a tendency to think that he has been there much MORE than he deserves...considering the hateful, smarminess he used on the day he was reelected..knowing he was going to be the Chair of the Judiciary Committee.
I think President Bush HAS tried to work with the troublemakers, much to MY chagrin, more than he will ever get credit for....but, that is my opinion...I sure would like to know.
He as been treated so badly by people like Kennedy, who he has bent over backward to work with...that it wouldn't surprise me if he did stop being cooperative.
He must be talking about JonBenet. Everytime I have turned on Fox, I have IMMEDIATELY turned it off again. I will not watch that tabloid trash.
