Now that we have a young one I'd like to have another dog that I know will be protective, but not attack the child? Is that possible?

One of those bit my sister in law in the face when she was a kid. They were napping together on the floor and when she woke up she apparently startled the dog.

Best dog I've ever seen with a child is a Pug. My daughter used to lay all over and hug that dog when she was a toddler. He never snapped at her. Not once.
