"that Hezbollah and Lebanon are joined at the hip,"
Not only this, but statements like those in this article show that it is one large concerted Islamofascist force, Iran, Syria, hezzies, hamas, all the same entity.
Their bold comments reveal them for who they really are.
There is no question anymore of fighting for a palestinian state, the cards are all on the table and the sides of the battle are easily seen for who they really are and what they really want.
The Pallies don't care. They don't want a state; they want Israel exterminated.
A very important distinction...

A Shorter Aftermath
The long version of what happened in Lebanon is in Aftermath. The short version of what happened in Lebanon is: it was a spoiling attack designed to destroy Iranian deterrence. Deterrence rests on fear. In this case the fear of barrages of cheap rockets. The Iranians have found out that you can't scare the Israelis on the cheap.
Michael Totten has some good pictures of the aftermath in Israel.
Real military powers have Air Forces. Every body else in this world is just a bunch of wannabes.
So how about a couple of questions. The Israeli Air Force can buzz Damascus with impunity. What would happen if the Syrian Airforce buzzed Haifa?
The Israeli Airforce with in flight refueling (they have and use the tankers) can reach Iran. Can the Iranian Airfoce reach Israel? What would happen if they did?
The Israeli Airforce is making Bekaa runs. Have the rocket barrages or the ground war restarted?
Now tell me who won.
In 22 August I talk about what kind of nuclear rocket attack from Iran is possible and what the Israeli response is likely to be. Short version. Leaflet a city and then nuke it. Or bomb a few nuke production installations.
Update: 19 Aug '06 1732z
Slightly OT: The Canadians are blaming Hizbollah for starting the war.
I'm surprised there hasn't already been a vote of no confidence.
Let them broadcast from Lebanon. Let them broadcast from Syria. Let them broadcast from Iran.
Americans will not buy it. What they do buy is the MSM broadcasting from Israel and saying, "over to you in Beirut Jonathan."
Then ghood ole Jonathan gives us the Hezzy side of the story which makes it seem like there is equality. There isn't. They want to destroy Israel.
Well, only time will tell. Saddly, the fight has just been postponed. And you are right, that the next time, Israel will be playing for all the marbles... their own existance. But we'll see.
Claire, you don't need to beg my pardon.
But you do need to stop and see what is really happening.
Your false sense of optimism is only exceeded by your firm lack of a grasp on reality.
Control of the skies didn't keep 116 Israeli soldiers from dying in ground combat. And Hezbos is still in control of firing positions into Israel.
Let's just agree to disagree.
What a creep! You don't get agree to disagree after this kind of antagonism. "Your false sense of optimism is only exceeded by your firm lack of a grasp on reality."
Damascus is Hizballah Central..
Oh, I see. You're making the rules.
But at least I did not call you any names.
We had this disagreement on another thread last week. There was no need to rekindle it.
We don't agree. There are worse things.
The Israelis aren't the only ones who can learn the wrong lessons from a war.
The Israelis tried to learn from US operations in Iraq, by avoiding deep penetrations that would allow the Hezbollah to attack their flanks and supply lines. That explained the Israeli frontal attacks on Hezbollah built up areas, and the lack of supply forces for the forward fighters.
This approach kept Israel from using their mobility advantage to cut off the Hezbollah, and prevent them from withdrawing.
The Israelis are about to field new missile defense forces. The Arabs will be behind again.
