Off to work I must go but first it's time for the Saturday Sortie. The Sortie looks at the flipp side of the catapult shot, LANDING, on an aircraft carrier.

I have a selection of pictures of various aeroplanes that depict the act of landing on an aircraft carrier so as time is short on with the pics....

First thing that ther pilot has to do is get the gear and hook down to land on the carrier. This S-3 Viking demonstrates the wheels and hook in the down and locked position.

Here a Tomcat is lined up on the carrier, note the "Plane Guard" escort behind the F-14. They are there just in case!!!

Another Tomcat coming over the stern just before landing.

A fish eye view of a Hornet as it crosses over the stern

AN oldie but a goodie, here an F-8 Crusader is over the threshold with the gear and hook down and ready for action!

A Hornet from VFA-103 catches the wire. If this is a really good landing that will be the number three wire that the Hornet has caught.

And finally to close out our little exercise in "coming aboard" anothe Hornet has caught the wire and is about to come to what has chartiably been described as a "Controlled Crash". It should be nored that the aircraft are going at full power when they hit the deck in case the hook does not engage a wire so that ht eaircraft cane go around.

Sorry for forgetting the ping list last night if you missed the Flyby it was post 31 on this thread.

Y'all have a great week and we will see you next Friday, As always suggestiona as to aircraft are always welcomed.

Regards

Welcome to the Canteen, Exiled Maine-ah, where we honor our troops, our veterans, their families, and our allies every day. We are here 24(mostly)/7/365 to provide a place for our military to stop in, pull up a chair, and enjoy a joke, hear a song (requests taken), read some history, enjoy a cyber meal (no calories), hear about our families lives, join in the silliness, and just relax. All who honor our troops, veterans, their families, and our allies are welcome to join in the every day honoring. We have serving troops, veterans, family members, allies, and those who just wish to help honor them here every day.
