Person Of Interest Questioned in Missing Women Case

Several tips helped lead police to a person of interest in the missing women investigation. It was over a week ago when Peggy Merimon and Kay Harrelson went to lunch at the Lubbock State School. Both women were last seen getting into an old gray or white sedan with a man that looked like what police artist sketch.

Police did confirm with NewsChannel 11 that the man they interviewed also matched this description. The interview lasted two hours, but the man was let go and is not yet being called a suspect. Police could not confirm if the man was employed by the State School but they do say they served a search warrant on a matching vehicle, which they are now running tests for DNA.

On Thursday NewsChannel 11 spoke with Peggy Merimon's family at the Lubbock State School, where a prayer vigil was held for both women. Hundreds came to show their support, and tell family members how much the women meant to them. Merimon's family told us they believe the disappearence has to be foul play and they can prove it.

"We know that something's going on here, more than just two ladies out galavanting oir going somewhere because there hasn't been any transactions with either bank account or credit cards, no incoming or outgoing cell phone calls. All those things lead us to believe there's foul play," says Sven Appleton.

Police are still investigating many leads and they ask if you do have any information about the disappearence, you are asked to call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000.

Lots of back-story to this not mentioned in this particular update, but basically, there is virtually nothing that would explain both women getting into this stranger's car, and they did not regularly leave the workplace for lunch or even take lunch together. Also, I heard on the radio that their cell phones both were turned off at the same time (4 a.m. following their disappearance).

This story just does not make any sense to me. The two ladies worked at the same location but did not know each other. I don't see how a man could have fooled them both at lunch. The family seems to be very concerned as they should be. I pray for a good outcome in this story but it is not looking good.

Please ping me to any updates on this case - had not heard of it before and rather a frightening story.

I think they worked together and were acquainted, but not "friendly". Probably a lot like someone you see around your building and nod hello or make smalltalk with, but otherwise you don't know one another after hours.

The Harrelson woman's husband was on TV the other night in a news conference offering a $25k reward, and he could barely get the words out.
If you were to look up "heartbreak" in the dictionary, there would've been a picture of him during that news conference.

Basically, witness accounts put it this way:
2 women who were acquainted but not friendly are seen taking coffee together at work earlier that day
at lunchtime, the 2 women exit the building and get into car as described above
they never return to work

I honestly haven't paid too close attention to it, but since I posted it here, I thought I should dig some stuff up.
They left the building and got into this car and supposedly left things like purses, cell phones, keys, etc., behind in the workplace.

Hmmmm....I guess cell phones wouldn't be on that list based on what I heard on the radio this a.m., on second thought.
I got that account about their leaving stuff behind from an earlier story, and I guess "cell phones" were mistakenly included?

almost sounds like they thought they were going to a nearby building or something doesn't it? Women just don't leave purses behind if they think they are leaving work

Oh my. Prayers up for these families for comfort and courage.

How could he have tricked two intelligent women to get in a car with him? Those cell phones both being cut off @ 4am is chilling.

There isn't much out there, although I think the state school has multiple buildings. It's next to the old TI plant which is now a Cingular call center, and that's pretty much it.

I saw this update last night hoping that there was a "major announcement". It is interesting that they released the man but kept his car in impound. The police, according to reports, are going to go over the car with a fine-toothed comb.

"person of interest" PC speak for "suspect". I've wondered if they started using that term because they think it fools the person they are looking for into believing they arent really a suspect.
