U.S. men, women still worlds apart

Vive la difference: Despite feminists, metrosexuals and gender-neutral language, we just can't surrender those old ways. Men, it seems, are still chivalrous, protective of their womenfolk and perhaps endearingly stubborn about certain things. And women? They like to shop, they're fastidious, and yes, they will ask for directions.
"American men and women tend to embrace many well-known sexual stereotypes, admitting to patterns of behavior commonly attributed to their gender," according to a poll released yesterday by the Scripps Survey Research Center at Ohio University.
"Recall that male passengers on the Titanic agreed to give up their places on the lifeboats for women and children," the researchers said in framing their question to more than 1,000 Americans. "If there were a similar life-or-death situation today, do you think men should be expected to die and allow women to live?"
Almost two thirds of the men -- a manly 63 percent -- said they should be expected to lay down their lives. Only 39 percent of the women agreed; 43 percent of the ladies, in fact, thought the idea was "old-fashioned," compared with 23 percent of the men.
Females had a practical edge: While almost half the men said that someone had told them that they were reluctant to ask for directions, the number was just 13 percent among women. And 65 percent of the guys had run out of gas while driving, compared with 47 percent of their feminine counterparts.

well, about NYC in general, I refer you to the song "Shattered" by The Rolling Stones, who summed it up pretty well. You can just fit the women into the context. But you'll have to amp up the effect, because it's about 30 mean years since that song was released.

"With more males in our population than ever, and a smaller military in generations, we are having to recruit girls, and women, and men in their 40s, to replace the two generations of young males that will not serve."
And you blame that on women who volunteer to serve in the DOD?
Instead of worrying about the small number of "feminazis", I would advise you to worry more about the large number of "male metrosexuals".
The overall loss of female respect for males in our society is richly deserved, IMHO.
And you may soon have cause to thank the majority of women in our society who adamantly refuse to "submit" to Islam, while many of our men, toy with the idea of the benefits of female subjugation for themselves.
Rent a clue, if you are unable to buy one outright!

It depends on the women--screeching feminist Baby Boomer gorgons? Out of the way you old bags!
I'd trample them with relish on the way to the life boats--hear them roar in (drowning) numbers too big to ignore.
So, I guess my reaction would depend on where the accident happened....

I do not depend upon the largess of anyone, male or female, for my survival.
In an emergency situation, I would naturally assume command, and chances are my "lifeboat" would have an eclectic mix of men, women and children.
I would prefer that I never be put in the position to make that roster, but should the occasion arise, I will deal with it.

And after studying the persistence of the old-fashioned bridal shower, Pennsylvania State University sociologist Beth Montemurro concluded June 28 that "American society is still very much married to tradition and traditional concepts of masculine and feminine." And I hope it never changes. I love guys opening doors for me and being nice and attentive. Courtesy is always in style, and I appreciate it.

The feminist legion's big mistake was overstating their argument and overplaying their hand. Their early battles were regarding fair pay, being treated fairly at work, etc. All good things.
After winning those rounds, they took a posture to simultaneously diminish men (bad idea), and diminish women who don't share their world view (an even worse idea). The result, a couple of decades later, is a lot of men and women who aren't very happy, but who will talk your ear off about how strong their self esteem is. :-)

Feminists in essence are man-hating, power hungry creatures. They have done more harm than good to the rest of us.
I will try to sleep now.

Seems like I read it in a forwarded email, but it is still pretty funny. It was about men being paid more for the same work and the email said that was A-OK because of the women and children first rule. As long as women got to row away while men waited to drown, the men deserved a little more at the office.
I think it is kind of funny that women regard the rule as old fashioned though. I bet they would be all for it if they just experienced a simulation of what would happen with an every (wo)man for themselves method of loading life rafts. I would be willing to bet said rafts would be pretty light on women.

Why, you have upper body strength waaaaay beyond an average female and punch above your weight! You're a real tiger and could not moved, displaced, trampled or marginalized by any man!
I don't think you realize what we are talking about here. People have no respect for an eclectic mix of anything in a survival situation--they trample and bite each other.
But, You Go Girl!

Ever heard of Smith & Wesson?
Remington Arms ring any bells?
There is a phrase that captures my attitude:
Lead, follow, or get out of the way.
There are very few males over the age of 16 who are NOT physically stronger than I.
No, I don't harbor any delusions about my physical capabilities.
OTOH, I also do not discount my own strengths and ability.
In any "perfect" emergency survival situation scenario, an experienced Navy SEAL would miraculously appear, take charge, and all would end well.
Since the chances of that actually happening in my vicinity during a life threatening emergency are smaller than my winning of the LOTTO, I will continue to plan for other eventualities.
But men would be very welcome on my "lifeboat", and not selected solely for their aesthetic value. :^)

Your post:

"Tell that to a military recruiter, With more males in our population than ever, and a smaller military in generations, we are having to recruit girls, and women, and men in their 40s, to replace the two generations of young males that will not serve."

I stand by my previous statement.
A quick "google" wade through, shows that women still comprise less than 20% of active duty USA DOD armed forces.
As far as "men in their forties" re-enlisting:
Must have been men in their early 40s, with very recent prior service, and in better than prime condition.
God bless their efforts, but most of them were also turned away by recruiters.
I have stood in the same lines since 91101...
Standing in line and thinking yourself able and willing does not equate to actually being qualified and selected.
But if you have actual knowledge of an actual USA DOD recruiter who can miraculously enlist an unqualified recruit as of this date, please freepmail me his/her name and/or location.

The only thing I posted was this;
"Tell that to a military recruiter, With more males in our population than ever, and a smaller military in generations, we are having to recruit girls, and women, and men in their 40s, to replace the two generations of young males that will not serve."
The other part was a quote from the article.
Read what is between the quote marks, and tell me how your responses make any sense.
