(CBS4) BOSTON Criminal charges could be filed Thursday against a Vermont woman who caused a disturbance aboard a London-to-Virginia jet that was diverted to Logan Airport.
59-year-old Catherine Mayo is being held by federal authorities in Boston.
Investigators say she was a claustrophobic passenger who became upset and interfered with the flight crew on United Airlines flight 923 Wednesday morning. The pilot declared an in-flight emergency and landed the plane at Logan. The Boeing 767 was escorted by two F-15 jets based out of Otis Air National Guard Base on Cape Cod.
Passengers say Mayo paced the aisles and peppered her incoherent mutterings with the word "Pakistan." They said two plainclothes men on board and flight attendants tackled the woman. She was handcuffed while the flight was diverted.
After a day filled with conflicting reports about what she was carrying, an FBI spokeswoman confirmed Mayo had a screwdriver, lighters and matches when she was subdued...

DU lurkers, defend this loopy chick. Sounds just like you guys do in writing, yet her public defender says that she has serious mental health problems.
The last line - the quote from "Sydney Freedman" - is the signature line of "pegmumm", who posted the item to "The Smirking Chimp".
Good work!
Not that many sheep really but as for the rest...
You're welcome. The only reason I know how to spell it is that I unfortunately lived there in the late '70s. Had to look at this street sign every day.
I was not a hippie. It was hell on earth for me, living there, in the San Francisco, Berkeley, and Oakland that Horowitz and Collins describe so well in that book.
And supports the murder of enemies of Islam. Get on board the Peace Train...
Another article on this thread points out that she was en route to Florida not returning to VT.
I missed that. Do you have a link?
Maybe but I think we beat them on a per capita basis.
Dang I can't seem to find it now. However, I did see that Mr Drinkwater was bound for Florida so possibly I confused the two.
Thanks.
Well, she was flying to Dulles, in Virginia, instead of say, Boston (where she ended up anyway), New York, Newark, Philadelphia or other more northern airports. So perhaps she was heading south. I didn't see that anywhere, but it wouldn't surprise me.
By the way, you're giving me props for something I didn't post. But thanks anyway.
Heheheh :)
Here's a link to another pic of her. Here
Update:
"Authorities did not release Mayo's name yesterday, but the two local security officials, who asked not to be identified because of the ongoing investigation, confirmed it.
After Mayo was taken off the flight, the other passengers were processed through customs and questioned, authorities said. All luggage on the plane was put into rows on the tarmac and checked by bomb-sniffing dogs.
Governor Mitt Romney said another woman on the flight was also taken into custody for ``immigration issues."

Next thing you know, there might be 3 involved. The Governor confirmed 2.
It's from the message board you linked.
Try this theory/conjecture/speculation/scenario on for size, see if all the pieces fit. (Warning: I am a writer -- my mind works in puzzle-piece-fitting mode. OK, you were warned. :)
So it's apparently true. She WAS making cryptic comments, possibly referencing Al Qaida. Add that to the banned items she DID have in her handbag.Subtract yesterday's denials of both. Then, add the denials of the denials back in.
What the heck is going on?
OK, here goes...
Idealistic, somewhat scatterbrained never-quite-grew-up (yet facing midlife crisis) "60s girl" gets lured to Pakistan, to meet a prospective husband (standard middle east ploy).
Once there, she eventually realizes that she's in way over her head, in a horror movie come to life.
The only way OUT of the nightmare is to play along, and hope to somehow foil the operation and make a break for it. (She can't just up and leave -- she's up in the mountains, and if she tries, they'll just kill her -- she knows too much.)
In the final moments of the nightmare's end, she does everything short of flashing a big neon sign with a bright purple arrow pointing at her. The talk of Flight 93, ("training flight"), the "wink wink nudge nudge wouldn't you like to know what's in my bag hint hint hint", and, of course, the increasingly abberant behavior, invoked when no one took the bait and looked in the damn bag...
IF this is what happened, then there were definitely some heavy hitters on that flight -- and they were obviously none too pleased at "the treachery of the infidel bitch!"
I dunno. I look at the big picture, and I see her having a mega-pucker-moment, and trying to get out of one hell of a spider's web of islamo-madness she'd fallen in to.
Anyone else see this scenario fitting the currently known facts? Or do I just need some sleep? :)
