There is no way the picture in post 48 is the same picture posted earlier. #48 shows white fur all along the muzzle to the nose. The first "monster" dog shows very dark fur exending out from the nose blending into a dark grey. The dog in the first picture and second picture cannot be the same. JMHO. :-)

Also a Chow can take down a Rottie or a Dobie in no time. (The Chow I had was small for male and he could scale a 6' fence in the blink of an eye, he could also get out a full harness in the blink of an eye, even after he was shaved so that we could get the harness on him tight without the bulky fur getting the way.)

They will be able to tell how old this mystery animal was by inspecting the teeth of it. It looks young to me.

No, and I would not want to hear one if that's what they sound like. I don't like for animals to have a long suffering death or to experience great fear. Swift and clean, over and done.

There are all kinds of wild dogs running about central Maine, and have been for decades. I've always understood these to be wild domestics, but who knows, and who knows after years of roaming and mixing what can come up. They're very agressive and very loud at night. Rare, but eerie to hear the howls across the lakes. Usually, and thankfully, it's just the loons.

We're getting wildlife back that disappeared long ago. The beavers, otters, and loons are no longer afraid of people, and the bald eagles have been moving back in. Love it when the loons announce an eagle. They only howl like that if scared off a nest or at the approach of a landing airplane -- or the eagles.

How did that rhyme go.

Even a man that is pure of heart and says his prayers at night.

Can change into a wolf when the wolfbaine blooms at night.

People have referred to the creature as hyena like before. This looks more like a dog.

With only reading the article and not the replies, this is a hoax.

The tip off is that only the two fiercest breeds were publicized victims...a Doberman and a Rottweiler.

What? No missing golden retrievers or cocker spaniels?

And it gets hit by a car chasing a freaking cat?

Fauxtography.

The animal was found near power lines along Route 4 on Saturday, apparently struck by a car while chasing a cat.

That's one lucky cat!
