Arellano, who was deported shortly after illegally crossing into the United States in 1997, is president of United Latino Family, which lobbies for families that could be split by deportation.

However by custom, authorities don't like to enter churches to make arrests

No such restraint applies to bounty hunters though. Seems like an easy way to make a quick buck.

They are showing this on FOX..and I pray to MY God that the news channels will STOP showing this insane act of civil disobedience by a Foreigner, ordered to leave our Country.

Remember Elian? They removed him at gunpoint and it was ugly. That's what the Latino movement wants the world to see again. We have to quit giving these people the publicity they seek.

They are hiding behind the Catholic Church, and this Priest should be defrocked.

Immigration activists around the country are taking up the cause of a single mother who invoked the ancient principle of sanctuary and took refuge in a Chicago church rather than submit to deportation to Mexico.

Federal officials said there is no right to sanctuary in a church under U.S. law and nothing to prevent them from arresting her. But they would not say exactly what they planned to do, or when.

She is the face of the movement," said Emma Lozano, executive director of the Chicago immigration-rights group {{{Centro Sin Fronteras,}}} who was at the church with Arellano.

In Phoenix, Martin Manteca of Mi Familia Vota said Hispanic activist groups were organizing a vigil in her support. Lozano said an event also was scheduled in Detroit.

Arellano also has attracted attention from political officials including Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, who has voiced his support. And Dolores Huerta, a leader in the effort to organize the nation's farm workers, plans to come to Chicago to show her support, according to Huerta's daughter, Alicia.

A few dozen supporters gathered at the storefront church, sitting in the pews and praying for Arellano. But the doors were not barricaded, and there were no apparent efforts to fortify the church.

Arellano, who is president of {{{United Latino Family,}}} which lobbies for families that could be split by deportation, had been ordered to appear at the immigration office in Chicago at 9 a.m. Tuesday, but instead went to the church, where she is an active member.

She said that if authorities want her, they will have to come and get her.

Ms. Arellano willfully violated U.S. immigration laws and is now facing the consequences of her actions by failing to report to immigration authorities," said agency spokeswoman Gail Montenegro. "We will arrest and deport her as required by law at an appropriate time and place."

{{{Legal experts agreed that the traditional doctrine that people are protected from arrest in a church is not recognized under U.S. law. }}}

"I don't think the immigration debate should be focused on a woman who ... disregards an order," said Carlina Tapia-Ruano, a Chicago lawyer and president of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Tapia-Ruano said she worries that Arellano's story will be used by extremists on both sides of the issue and cited as an example "of how illegals come here to be in flagrant disregard of our laws

I'm hoping this country has run out of bleeding heart sympathy for those who want to stay here ILLEGALLY.

This is exactly what we are going to experience if any sort of Path to Citizenship requires them to go back to Mexico and reapply to come here. Hell no, they won't go..

Arellano illegally crossed into the United states in 1997 and was deported shortly afterward. She returned within days, living for three years in Oregon before moving to Chicago in 2000. Arrested two years later at O'Hare Airport, where she was working as a cleaning woman, she was convicted of working under a false Social Security number and ordered to appear at the immigration office in Chicago.

She won the help of members of the Illinois congressional delegation, who rallied around her because her 7-year-old son, Saul, a U.S. citizen, has ADHD and other health problems. She has been granted three stays of deportation since 2003. U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) sent a letter to President Bush on Wednesday asking that Arellano be granted yet another stay.

Sen. Dick Durbin, Sen. Barack Obama and others have said there is nothing more they can do for her. Because her son's condition has improved, some of those sympathetic to her cause suggest that another stay of deportation cannot be justified.

Arellano's supporters are calling for a moratorium on deportation until Congress passes its now-shelved immigration reform.

She has twice entered the country illegally, has been convicted of carrying a false Social Security card, speaks very poor English for someone who has been in this country nine years and she plays her so-called "anchor baby," a 7-year-old son who is a U.S. citizen because he was born here, as her trump card.

The strongest argument for giving her special dispensation seems to be that she's a well-known activist and "not a terrorist," which she keeps insisting even though no one says she is.

She compares herself to Rosa Parks, the black woman whose refusal in 1955 to give up her seat on the bus to a white man sparked the civil rights movement.

But Parks was defying unjust and immoral segregation. And Arellano and her supporters have yet to make the case--aside from declaring it so--that there is anything unjust or immoral about the laws under which she is being deported.

her declaration that her arrest and deportation will serve to illustrate "the hatred and hypocrisy of the current administration,"

An online CNN poll linked to the network's coverage of the Arellano story showed 93 percent of respondents opposing the proposition that "anchor babies" should immunize a parent from deportation.

I cannot wait for her to get the boot. Why is this country stupid enough to allow peasants from Mexico to jerk it around? I have no empathy for her. She's a shameless liar and media manipulator

She needs to be booted. It's up to her to take her anchor baby with her - or not

SERIAL CRIMINAL - POSSIBLE KIDNAPPER
by: great.overseer 08/20/06 11:44 am
Msg: 4217 of 4217

I read quite a bit about the history on this one.

-She used a false name when she first entered.

-She fraudulently obtained a Washington state drivers license.

-She went to someplace on 26th Street to knowingly buy a fraudulent SS card for the plane cleaning job at O'Hare. (feel safe flying now??)

-She filed fraudulent information on the FAA security badge application for that job.

-She swore to fraudulent info in the I-9.

Who knows how many benefit applications she fraudulently filed or even little Saul's birth certificate. The pitiful little single mother and her fatherless child.

On that note - she may have absconded with the child across multiple state lines.
She has told one story where she met Benjamin(no last name given) in a laundromat in Wapato, WA.

He worked harvesting hops in that area.
That story documents they were together from at least December 1997 to May 1998. Saul was born 12/18/1998.

She moved with her 'friend', Lupita (more likely a cousin since she talked about living with her and later told immigration that she lived with her 'primo'), to the Chicago area.

Her documented history of lies and now a sort of child exploitation, should easily call into question some of her statements in her story:

Her leaving Wapato and crossing multiple state lines should call into question what actually happened and why she doesn't mention why it's OK that Saul doesn't have a dad.

In any case, she effectively terminated Benjamin's parental rights by moving.

Since she knew Benjamin for at least 5 months, she hopefully got a last name and an address.

This would allow her to give correct information on any benefit applications she had turned in after Saul was born.(not likely)

This would also make it easy to track him down for child support and visitation/parental rights.
