Now KTKZ, the home of the Recall is replacing the guy who almost single handedly put them on the map, morning host Eric Hogue. WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY THINKING!!!!!!!!
Sacramentos Salem Broadcasting is under new management. And it appears that they are operating under the belief that they can save money and increase the bottom line by eliminating all local talk and going all syndicated, all the time.
Maybe Im mistaken, but isnt that KTKZs format before Eric got here? And werent their ratings in the toilet? What is it that makes these folks believe that eliminating one of Sacramentos favorite local talk shows in favor of an already failed programming format is a good idea? What has changed?
Well I, for one am not willing to let this go without a fight. And I am not alone. I have been in contacted by some soon to be former KTKZ advertisers and listeners who have asked me to urge everyone who cares to contact the management at Salem and let them know that we want Eric to stay.
So Im asking
. No
.. Im pleading with you, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
Send an email to : edwarda@salem.cc and let them know that we want Eric to stay! And that we value local conservative talk here in Sacramento. And then send this email to every conservative you know within the KTKZ listening area.
We have until September 1st to make a difference. So lets make it happen!
Done.
If it happens then I guess it will be back to Armstrong and Getty for me on AM 650.
Eric Hogue is a Schwarzenegger boot-licker. He gave up his conservative credentials during the recall when he turned nasty on Tom McClintock.
Not to suggest too much tin foil here, what is the 2006 election looking like in your community?
In Houston there were several issues (like a billion dollar stadium referendum that passed with 1% of the majority and had Ken Lay shilling for it, as well as a viable Republican challenger to a steady line of hand picked Democrat mayors, as well as some other legislation) all on the table and being challenged by the local conservative talk radio station. The manager was even publicly debating Ken Lay on the stadium issue (so it was not purely in the arena of radio).
Clear Channel bought out majority interest in the station, fired the local staff, and promoted a new manager. It took several months for the team to set up elsewhere on the dial but every major issue the station had within a few percent of winning were lost.
Sometimes the powers that be don't want a squeaky wheel drawing attention. Especially to local issues in what are traditionally 1-paper, 1-party towns.
Favorite? Is this true? I listened a couple times -- that was enough.
what are the local ratings?
Ingraham, Prager, Medved, Hewitt and Gallasgher are going to be on the channel?
I listen to Rush on KFBK in Sacramento and then turn it off. Since they let Mark Williams go, I have no use for KFBK.
Stadium for who?
Ken Lay was pushing for the whole stadium package (3 so far... Baseball, Football, and Basketball, we may still wind up with MORE stadiums from this thing too).
Enron won naming rights for the stadium until the scandal broke.
The Houston Comical was a fair weather friend. As downtown business partners, they were buddies and fully rah rah for the stadiums. The Comical got scoped on the whole Enron thing.
Ah, you don't listen to Kitty and Tom Sullivan in the afternoon? ..Then turn to Savage on 650 KSTE at 3PM?
Don't know what Hogue's ratings are, but the station overall is mired in the basement...they haven't even been able to beat Air America.
Morning radio in Sacramento is so bad, I listen to KSFO. KFBK is duller than wet noodles. Arm and Getty are too juvenile and now, formulaic. And I've never been able to get in Hogue.
Whoops, wireless keyboard battery alert:
"never been able to get in Hogue" should be "into".
Another whiny radio station thread, eh?
You don't like the format of your local radio station? Buy it, and put whoever the heck on it you want. Isn't that what the new owners of this station did?
Where I come from, free enterprise means that the owner of a radio station can program his station in whatever way he wants. That's a conservative value.
Get all those friends together who you want to bombard the station owner with mail. Pool your money and buy a station and hire the talk show guy.
If it's popular, you'll make tons of money. If it's not, then you'll learn a valuable lesson about running a radio station, right?
Are you KIDDING me? Would they be that insane? Eric Hogue is terrific; he's just about the only sign of intellectual life IN Sacramento, at least media-wise. He's sharp, he's articulate, he's energetic, he's aggressive -- he gets all sorts of folks involved in that show.... that's INSANE.
KTKZ is last place
Didn't I hear Hogue talking up the stadium tax last week? Could be wrong, but I thought I heard it.
wow. ksac- isn't that air america? - is ahead of ktkz. Are these numbers legit? Where'd you get them?
