100 Angriest Cities In U.S.
wftv ^ | August 15, 2006

Posted on 08/15/2006 8:56:23 PM PDT by stainlessbanner

A study conducted by Men's Health magazine has found that Orlando, Fla., ranks No. 1 on a list of the angriest cities in the nation.

"Orlando has never been a strategic military target, and yet the folks there are furious," the magazine said.

The magazine looked at the percentage of men with high blood pressure, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and FBI rates for aggravated assaults, as well as workplace deaths from assaults and other violence.

Those numbers were compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Traffic congestion data were also a factor.

Orlando was joined in the top 10 by three other Florida cities -- St. Petersburg, Miami and Jacksonville.

Top 10 Angriest Cities

1. Orlando, Fla.
2. St. Petersburg, Fla.
3. Detroit
4. Baltimore
5. Nashville, Tenn.
6. Wilmington, Del.
7. Miami
8. Memphis, Tenn.
9. Jacksonville, Fla.
10. St. Louis

I lived in the City of Rochester for the past 10 years. I miss Rochester and the Finger Lakes but I don't miss NY State government! I should have moved here to New Hampshire years ago!

So much for easy southern livin' .....

Florida has so many northern immigrants that the confederate soldier statues in all of the squares in all of the little towns in GA have been turned from facing north to facing south.

Stupid, out on probation, tattooed knuckelhead on meth driving around in a pickup,
posing as a contractor. Baltimore must have thousands of them.

Seattle at #43...THAT, I can see. It's so full of liberals that hate Bush, I'm surprised it's not higher!

But little ol' Spokane, WA, my hometown...#68?????

Being a born-and-raised Spokanite, that shocks me to no end. I NEVER saw anyone really angry there, EVER. I wonder what happened?

1. Orlando, Fla. ... isn't that the home of Mickey Mouse??

Not surprising. Have you ever spent a long hot day and the Magic Kingdom with a couple of young kids? :^P

Don't forget, "the forehead" Paul Begala called the Florida panhandle, on election night 2000, "Alabama without the blacks". It was probably a true statement, but the cultural bigotry behind it really ticked me off!

Being that I am from Pittsburgh (no. 90 on the list) and very 'mellow' I shall not take offense. Super Bowl wins make a community very happy; don't want to know that a Super Bowel Champ would even be...

BTW, young Mr. Roethlisberger is doing quite well and seemingly fully recovered from this recent accident (must be the good Karma here in the 'Burgh.)

Wow you sure did a lot of work! I was mostly joking around about statistics and how they can be used to make almost any claim. This kind of statistic (most agriest cities) is almost comical imho - esp at the top of the list. Just look at the factors they use. High blood pressure? That ensures that cities in Florida and Arizona will rank higher simply because they have retirement communities and the elderly tend to suffer more from hypertension. Then add in "workplace deaths" and you might find a town with a coal mine move up the scale even if the people are quite friendly.

Put simply, hypertension is a disease not related to a person's anger. Workplace deaths are subject to anomolies or to a predominance of more hazardous jobs. Neither one really tells you how angry or friendly the population is.

But I appreciate your work. So there you have it... 70% of Americans live in the 100 angriest cities. Therefore, more than 2/3's of Americans are angry. :-)
