Pakistan bows to pressure and arrests Taliban fighters
(Filed: 16/08/2006)
Pakistan reacted to pressure from Britain and other Western powers yesterday by arresting dozens of Taliban fighters suspected of attacking British soldiers across the border in Afghanistan.
At least 27 suspected Taliban warriors were arrested at the private al-Khair Hospital in Quetta where some were receiving medical treatment for wounds.
Meanwhile in the port city of Karachi, police arrested a suspected Islamic militant accused of training religious students to become suicide bombers and deploying them against coalition troops in Afghanistan.
There have been months of diplomatic wrangling over Pakistan's apparent reluctance to tackle the Taliban on its own turf. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph in May, a senior British officer said that the Taliban leadership was sitting in Quetta.
Around 200 Taliban insurgents were arrested by Pakistani police last month. Western diplomats complained that many of those arrested were immediately released.
they are all there.
"At least 27 suspected Taliban warriors "
Wounds, can't be -- this is a ploy by the Bush administration. These are innocent students -- seekers of the truth. The wounds must have happen in the arrest.
I can't imagine that the Brits would even report on this and make enemies of their home-grown terrorists??
The Pakis knew exactly where to go, and made a nice one day sweep of 27. How many hundreds and thousands before and after this day have the Pakis knowingly patched up and put back into battle against our troops?
What were the non-wounded doing there, partying with the nurses?
Randi Rhodes has decided that this is all because we don't like brown people. LOL
Randi Rhodes is an idiot.
As soon as this bunch of "brown" people stop trying to kill us at every opportunity, we might start to like them.
They blow up children, behead teachers, use innocents as shields and dress as women to escape. Warrior is not the name that comes to mind.
