also taking into account that a lot of "hispanics" in Florida would look more white bread than some bubbas in BithloThat is true, alot of Florida Hispanics (most?) are of Cuban descent. I'd say half of those could pass for "white bread" Americans. They are also quite Conservative.
This trend doesn't bother me too much, what concerns me is how assimilated these people are. The more the better, of course, but I dont mind if they retain some elements of the home culture (Yummy foods, hot women, LOL).
Just for the record, I am one of the "browns", or whatever it is they call me. Born and raised in the USA, love football, hotdogs, and apple pie. I speak perfect english, people that I meet online or over the phone are often shocked to see that I am hispanic, because I come across as so "American" otherwise. I like it that way.

Yep, people are quite shocked to know I am 1/4 Seminole Indian. No-one can get passed the blonde hair, freckles and green eyes I got from my Scott/Irish mother. I could qualify for all kinds of minority benefits but for some reason I don't. My daughter now 1/8th Seminole will probably get the same treatment, blonde hair, blue eyes!

Funny you'd call yourself a brown. ;)
Actually, that is what America is about. Come here. Come here legally, and assimilate. Keep elements of your own culture, preserve it at home, but mix with society. In that way, you ADD to the melting pot. I'm a "white". Frankly, I don't care if I'm in the minority or majority. What I do care about is that my country and my way of life are preserved. Simple as that.

Well welcome to America(just kidding) :^).
I always get a laugh on these types of threads, because it brings the reactionaries out on FR(usually people who don't or have never lived in the state the article is talking about).
They get very very, quiet when the fact that FL has become a more conservative state despite the old white bubba democrats losing a % of the overall population.

So many "Anglos" today were once thought of as the "other": Italians, Greeks, Slavs etc. Even Scandinavians in many parts were abused as being less than WASP. So this statistic does not bother me. The most disgusting ideologies have originated with "whites" ---and that semitic carpenter in the Holy Land wasn't exactly welcomed.
It's not about race aka white v dark---but sharing a conservative belief system grounded in Judaeo Christian beliefs and conservative principles.
I feel much more comfortable among my African American Christian friends than socialist secularist Whites.
