WASHINGTON, Aug. 14 — After being outmaneuvered in the politics of national security in the last two elections, Democrats say they are determined not to cede the issue this year and are working to cast President Bush as having diminished the nation’s safety.

"They would send the Hezbollah U.S. passports, if they could."

IIRC, Bubba already tried that, or at least greatly reduced wait times, security checks, etc.

I just bet they do!!! They are currently trying to figure out the best way to convince Americans that they really do give a 'hit. It won't work. They are soft on crime, soft on terror, and soft on homeland security.

Are you kidding? That prize idiot Kucinich would institute a Department of Peace and probably even invite Osama bin Laden to the White House.

So the Dems are going to claim that if Saddam and Sons were back in power, we would be safer?

LOL

The dems have done everything possible to block President Bush and our Intel agencies from doing their jobs

Even threatening to impeach the President in a time of war

It will be a cold day in hell before I ever consider the Dems are taking this WOT seriously

They think it's all a political game

"probably even invite Osama bin Laden to the White House."

Maybe that's their secret plan to find bin Laden!

They're the ones opposed to electronic eaves-dropping, would like to gut the NSA and leak every military/intel thing they know but Bush is the one who's "diminished the nation's safety"?

Dims see Security as Key Issue for Fall ... so do we.

After being outmaneuvered in the politics of national security in the last two elections...

Outmaneuvered? These people have been soft on national security for decades. They voted against the Patriot Act, they want to close down Gitmo, they outed our surveilance effots, etc. Who are they kidding?

This is lunacy. There are hundreds of incidents where these airhead Liberals are on tape shooting off their cowardly mouths. Saying their strong on national defense; put them all on the Comedy Channel.

They see security as a concern, and being as "give the country to the enemy" isn't much of plan they're sweating....

So long as there are no terrorist attacks in America before november, it's going to be hard to argue that we should have spent MORE money and driven up the deficit even more, because you couln't acheive a better result.

And I think the recent stories about states around the nation squandering security dollars will wake up america to the idea that some politicians, including both republicans and democrats, used homeland security as an excuse to get money for their districts. Which could be bad for incumbents, but ----

it should make a mockery out a a concerted democrat effort to complain we didn't spend ENOUGH money, when it is clear there was more than enough money and the politicians were just wasting it.

and the more terror plots that are "stopped", they harder it is for the democrats to argue that we are just lucky. We've stopped plots that would have killed tens of thousands of americans, much more than had been killed on 9/11 or before -- so we obviously are doing much better than we did before 9/11.

Coupled with the democrats on-again, off-again complaints about the Patriot act and the various anti-terrorism surveillance programs, and the democrats have set themselves a rough table to make a "too weak on security" argument.

Which of course would change if there were a terror attack.

What if, in October, the terror threat level was lowered to blue? The democrats would scream, but millions of americans would perceive that we were safer.

I wish they would lower to blue, because then my company wouldn't make me badge into my parking lot in the mornings.

SOme suggested Democrat slogans:

Vote Democrat--Because 9-11 WAS America's fault, you know...

Vote Democrat--Because then the terrorists will stop hating us

Vote Democrat--You'll sleep better knowing Hllary, Ted and Kerry are keeping your children safe

End the Republican Hold on Congress--Then the Palestinians will dance in the street, and like the whole world will be happy again!

Remember the good old days when we gave freely of our intelligence secrets?

Sorry, but seeking who to apologize to for them destroying our buildings and people doesn't seem strong on anything to me.

If Lamont can't handle the "vitriol" in a campaign, how will he handle National Security matters?

Why would Demobrats want to claim ownership of a 'loser' policy?
I agree, the Demoncraps, like Light Horse Harry are the arch-enemies of The Patriot Act and may try to claim the high ground on the War Against Terror, lame as THAT is. The 'high ground' isn't very high.

The only actual 'War' against terror took place between the invasions of Afghanistan/Iraq and the Presidential carrier landing with its TRAGICLY PREMATURE declaration of the end of the 'War' phase. After that, it has been an effort to reprise the Vietnam War all over again and, may I say, our troops do a great job of being TARGETS in terrorist shooting galleries.

I suggest that our soldiers make their re-enlistments contingent upon being unleashed to KILL AND DESTROY THE ENEMY. Otherwise, their lives are just so much CANNON FODDER for maniacs - arranged BY OUR PENTAGON for them.

Maybe the troops could be given big Hassan Nasrallah-size photos of NANCY PELOSI to be taken into the streets of Baghdad and SCARE THE ISLAMO-FASCISTS INTO SURRENDER.
THEN, the Demoncats will have more credibility on the issue.

The first rule of advertising is "Advertise your weakest point". Alaska Air has the worst on-time record, so their slogan is "The on-time airline".

The Dems know their weakest point, so that's what they have to fix in the minds of their tiny-minded followers.
