Law enforcement sources confirm to News 4 that Tucson Police have issued an "attempt to locate" on two Middle Eastern men in their 20's who purchased nearly 50 phones from Sam's Club and Wal-Mart in Tucson.
Sources say the men made the purchases on Saturday and Sunday.
There's been a number of arrests nationwide with very similar circumstances.
News 4 is not linking this case with the national cases, but we do want to point out how similar they are.
Arrests have been made in Michigan and Ohio and there are reports of large numbers of cell phones being sold to young men fitting the same description in Wisconsin.
There was a very similar case that went down in Antigo, Wisconsin where police say another group of men bought more than 90 cell phones from 4 different stores.
News 4 spoke with a Wal-mart and Sam's Club representative and he would not confirm nor deny that these men did in fact buy those phones.
Instead, he referred us to the police and we spoke with the Pima Sheriff's Department and the Marana and Oro Valley police departments.
Tucson law enforcement authorities confirmed late Sunday night that officers are searching for these two men.
It was about 10 years ago. It was a flight over the Pacific as I remember. At the tender age of 60 some of my photographic memory is running out of film. I'll try to find it.
Great. My reason for asking is supposedly the liquid bomb thing was done as a dry-run (in Pakistan I believe) pretty recently, which is why they know it works. I had no idea this stuff was going on that far back. Unreal.
I'm feeling more patriotic already.
How does this work? If the phone is to be used as a detonator, then why are they tearing the phone apart? Thanks to anyone who can help me with this.
You get ided for spray paint too.
Plenty of countries (Australia is one of them) where you have produce ID and register when you buy a cellphone. Some countries even keep records of phone conversations and store them for some time.
that's the conversation at LGF. Is it the batteries they want or the phone itself. What components do the phones have that make them attractive to islamoterrorists?
Call the civil rights people. No profiling allowed. Police just can't have any description at all to find these folks. It's just not politically correct...
Good for you, Minutemen...
As for my post what I meant was that if Bush can use the Patriot Act to put products like Alka Seltzer Plus, an OTC, an over the counter medication behind the pharmacy counter where customers have to be scrutinized before they can purchase it, then Tracfones and their ilk should also be put behind the service counters of Walmarts and Sam's Clubs. Anyone who buys them has to produce an ID. Anyone who buys over two at a time may get a visit from the local FBI.
I read it. Great Book, and as controversial as #&LL. Michelle is right though, these are desperate times requiring desperate measures and if we dont put these measures in place we will loose. She wrote this book in 2004 and its even more true today. When Islamic Fascist are willing to kill themselves and willing to kill their own women and children it becomes a dreadful frightful one sided war.
There are so many reports of this, that I am beginning to tho think it's something slightly more unspectacular than a terror plot.
Perhaps they've been listening too much to Michael Moore and Howard Dean, and believe that the NSA is going to rat on their adulteries or something, so there's a big run on untrackable phones???
Well, for what it's worth, I'm calling my Senator tomorrow. What's going on is sheer madness.
Any similarities to the case in Michigan are purely coinkidink.
I think that's it.
You are limited to just two or three per purchase. The guys were trying to get by this limit by buying two at a time, then coming back for two more, and so on until they got the feeling people were on to them and try to move on.
The clerks are the ones who are reporting this suspicious activity - apparently the multiple purchases are allowed so as to give the store time to contact the police or FBI and ID the vehicle these guys are driving.
Walmart clerks have been noticing this odd activity since at least March.
Can anyone tell me if you can really sell these things on the street? I mean, there's a Wal-Mart not for from everyone these days, why can't those potential buyers go to Wal-Mart too? The only people I hear saying this are the perpetrators themselves and Muslim sympathizers.
just google "Project Bojinka" and it will tell you about the big plan back 1995 when they tested the liquid bomb that killed the one Asian Man on the plane.
