Law enforcement sources confirm to News 4 that Tucson Police have issued an "attempt to locate" on two Middle Eastern men in their 20's who purchased nearly 50 phones from Sam's Club and Wal-Mart in Tucson.
Sources say the men made the purchases on Saturday and Sunday.
There's been a number of arrests nationwide with very similar circumstances.
News 4 is not linking this case with the national cases, but we do want to point out how similar they are.
Arrests have been made in Michigan and Ohio and there are reports of large numbers of cell phones being sold to young men fitting the same description in Wisconsin.
There was a very similar case that went down in Antigo, Wisconsin where police say another group of men bought more than 90 cell phones from 4 different stores.
News 4 spoke with a Wal-mart and Sam's Club representative and he would not confirm nor deny that these men did in fact buy those phones.
Instead, he referred us to the police and we spoke with the Pima Sheriff's Department and the Marana and Oro Valley police departments.
Tucson law enforcement authorities confirmed late Sunday night that officers are searching for these two men.

What worries me is are they bringing packages in? It would be very easy to hid a back pack in the the store.
BOLO in your neck of the woods
Were these sales stepped up after the British plot was foiled? And can these phones be used in other countries? Could Al Qaeda have a new communication plan to only speak for less than 5 minutes with each other on these phones and then trash them? Maybe they fear all the phone tapping?
No doubt the FBI won't pay much attention to these two either
Clerks are trained to keep an eye out for this type of behavior. They have been helping authorities for years in tracking down meth labs. When people use debit and credit cards to purchase it leaves a trail.
Why wouldn't you WANT clerks to complete the purchase, turn in the info and send the authorities after these militants? It helps us know what they are up to and who they are in cahoots with.
Kudos to the clerks and managers for helping with our national safety!! Keep up the good work!!
Could be anything. Allof your points are plausible. No matter what it is though, something is rotten in the state of Denmark. I also wonder if Ahmadinajad has something up his sleeve for his favorite date of August 22nd.
"Could Al Qaeda have a new communication plan to only speak for less than 5 minutes with each other on these phones and then trash them? Maybe they fear all the phone tapping?"
I wonder about that, too. My guess is that they are preparing something big and don't want their plans foiled by "chatter".
Something is up. Too much coincidence. Don't know if its the August 22nd date or that we're nearing the 5th anniversary of 9/11. I don't know why we can't just keep them all locked up in local jails til we squeeze as much info out of them as possible.
Exactly. If these little fake "entrepreneurs" were really interested in selling these cell phones for "profit" they'd have gotten their wholesale #, and buy them at wholesale.
They are not stupid. This is a nationwide problem folks, stand guard, and be ever vigilant.
Remember last fall the kid that blew himself up at an OU football game right outside the stadium? He had remains of a cell phone and a roommate from Pakistan.
I agree something is up. This is hugh and series.
We never did hear about that phone in the plane yesterday. Was it a throw away?
Someone needs to tell these guys about WHOLESALERS!!! It's a lot simpler to order 1000 phones for resale from a wholesaler than to drive around the country buying phones from Walmarts in small towns across the country.
You know, all that sneaking around is going to make people think they are up to no good.

Gas prices alone would eat up any profit.
I recall seeing Michelle Malkin's blog about the Dearborn bust on the same day the British plot was unraveled.
Looks like the M.E. terrorists' biggest cheerleaders is our own half-witted federal government and L.E. agencies who keep telling us they see no connections to terrorism.
I'm getting upset with their 'standard' explanations, anybody else agree with me?
I couldn't tell if you were being facetious or not. I've got intuition on this. For whatever it's worth, I had a premonition about the shoe bomber that was so strong, I almost called the FBI but thought they'd laugh at me. When it happened, I was so disturbed, I couldn't sleep. Unfortunately, I've had this "problem" since I was a kid. It's often about totally stupid things, but bothersome just the same.
