Tom Gallaghers campaign has changed media consultants and will begin airing new television ads this week with a sharper focus on the issues in the hope of overcoming Charlie Crist in the Republican primary.
Mike Murphy, one of the nations most successful GOP media strategists and consultant Matt Leonardo are taking over the task of writing and producing television and radio ads for the campaign. They replace media consultant Scott Howell who left the campaign.
Howells departure comes on the heels of the resignations of David Johnson, Gallaghers general campaign consultant, and David Browning, the campaigns finance director. Losing key staff this late in a campaign usually happens when there is disagreement over the direction of a campaign.
Tom Gallagher should tell voters, here are the differences between me and Charlie Crist, said Murphy, who helped elect Arnold Schwarzenegger, governor of California, Mitt Romney, governor of Massachusetts and Gov. Jeb Bush.
Murphy said polls showing Chief Financial Officer Gallagher well behind Attorney General Crist do not reflect the much bigger voter swings that you get in primary elections. But Murphy also acknowledged that Gallagher remains at least 15 points behind and victory is still a long shot.
Murphy said he has been talking to Gallagher for about two weeks concerning the direction of the campaign. Murphy said he urged Gallagher to stay in the race and focus on the issues that GOP primary voters care about such as taxes and gay marriage.
This race is far from over, said Murphy who lives in California. Tom has a real chance to win.
Murphy, who is known for his hard-hitting ads, said the campaign will not attack Crist but said it will be a spirited three weeks.
The primary election is Sept. 5th.
Could you please direct me to part of my profile that shows I need someone to blame? Unless some hacker changed my profile, you're delusional.
That's because you have devoted your profile to Terri (commendable) but seem to need someone to throw the blame on for closure.
You have found one and that's good for you but emotions are what drives the Democrat Party to elect the array of people they put into office and there have been some seriously bad results.
By the way, none of my comments about Gallagher have been disproven, they have just been spun in a different direction.
In other words, you're delusional. I haven't closed with any blame. It doesn't even remotely say that. You might have overlooked some things on my profile, and seen things that aren't there. Who do you think it says I'm blaming? There were a number of people who contributed to her murder. I believe that each person is responsible for their own actions. I fail to see why you have a problem with that opinion. Admitting that Crist was wrong doesn't mean that he single-handedly killed her. It doesn't mean that everybody else who helped kill her isn't responsible for their own behavior. I'm at a loss to figure out why you think it does. It also doesn't mean that he could have single-handedly rescued her. People are responsible for their own actions. Mob violence is no justification for participation.
The government never solves anything except preserving the political careers of those in it.
There was nothing anyone could have done (any more than was done) to change the eventual outcome and you know it as well as I do.
It's one of those deals where they used to say "the fix was in" .
I do not think our efforts were wasted, but to this day I picture a very smug Michael Schiavo giving me the finger. As far as I'm concerned, he is a cheap version of O.J. Simpson and is Satan's tool.
But to start blaming what he did on the inept politicians (like Judge in the O.J. comparison) does not bring me any comfort. I'm pretty sure they knew what was coming and many of them wanted to get out in front of it to try and save face....some didn't.
How many times do you have to be told? I don't blame Crist for Schiavo's actions. I blame each of them for their own actions. Crist came out publicly against Terri's right to live. He praised Greer for ordering her death. I don't blame Crist for Greer's actions. I blame Crist for Crist's actions. He was, and is, vocally opposed to the right of disabled people to not be tortured to death. I don't believe for one minute that he had the ability to save Terri all on his own. I don't blame him for an outcome that he was not in control of. I blame him for his own actions. I believe people are responsible for their own actions. Crist's actions, and inaction, contributed to Terri's murder. And he has made it clear that he'd do the same all over again. No regrets. He couldn't even look Bob Schindler in the eye. He had no problem helping Michael kill Bob's daughter, but he couldn't look Bob in the eye. I think it's because he knew what he was doing was wrong.
If it gives any of us comfort to be able to project our own guilt (and we're all guilty in this case) onto some politicians, I guess Dr. Phil would say that that would be an effective way of doing it.
When I see posts that say that Crist murdered Terri, I see how far some are willing to go and I wish they would pause and think about it a little.
You must have that new secret version of Internet Explorer that includes that new (scent) feature.
I did go fishing ealier and that fish smell doesn't always wash off that easily.
Just for you I will go and take another shower and if you're nice, I'll use a little cologne.
In recent days...it's become evident that the candidate who is the conservative Republican is Tom Gallagher......
Excerpt:
Mr. Gallagher supports the decision by Gov. Bush and the Legislature to intervene in the Terri Schiavo case. Mr. Crist, the state's attorney general, does not. Mr. Gallagher refuses to consider changing the state's ban on gays adopting some of the state's hardest-to-place foster children. Mr. Crist says he would consider a change. Mr. Gallagher wants to overturn Roe vs. Wade. Mr. Crist doesn't. Mr. Gallagher congratulated President Bush after he vetoed legislation to widen embryonic stem-cell research. Mr. Crist favors using state money on such research.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...
THERE IS A DIFFERENCE
~Tom Gallagher Endorsed by Florida Right to Life~
The leading Republican contenders for governor were a study in contrasts Wednesday, as Tom Gallagher sought to ignite social conservatives while front-runner Charlie Crist worked to ward off complacency.
Gallagher picked up the endorsement of Florida Right to Life, a move aimed at rallying the broad swath of social conservatives his campaign says it commands and whose support is critical to his hopes for a dramatic comeback in the Sept. 5 primary.
I'm deeply sympathetic with the plight of women who seek an abortion, said Gallagher, who appeared with his wife, Laura, to accept the endorsement at the organization's Altamonte Springs office.
But my focus will remain on the unborn child who has no choice and no voice.
Gallagher also worked to turn up the heat on Crist by labeling him soft on abortion.
He says he prefers to change hearts rather than change the law, Gallagher said. But hearts and minds do not follow leaders who are timid and who do not demonstrate conviction.
The Central Florida campaign stops came a day after the Republican primary fight heated up at a candidate forum in Poinciana, the contenders' last scheduled joint appearance before a pair of television debates later this month.
At the forum, Gallagher sought to portray Crist as straying from Republican ideology on a host of issues, including taxes, offshore oil drilling and class sizes, unveiling a tone he is expected to build on as the race hurtles toward election day.
Crist eventually responded. One of their most marked differences is Gallagher's call for a 24-hour waiting period before a woman could have an abortion, a restriction Crist opposes and voted against in 1995 while in the state Senate.
"I don't think that politicians ought to put themselves in the place of physicians, and I think it's very important to respect the medical profession," Crist told reporters. "Putting those kinds of legislative time limits on things aren't appropriate."
Crist further distanced himself from social conservatives by breaking with President Bush over his veto last month of legislation allowing federal funding of advanced embryonic stem-cell research, a veto Gallagher applauded.
Gallagher has moved to the right in this race and attributes his pro-traditional-family, anti-abortion stance to his late-in-life family.
Bob Touchston, a former president of Florida Right to Life and a member of its political action committee, called Gallagher the only candidate for governor willing to take a stand against Planned Parenthood and other left-wing groups and fight for the most vulnerable of our citizens.

So far, my comments about Gallagher have not been disproven....merely sidestepped in some cases and heavily spun in the remainder. If you have difficulty in seeing through spin, then I can see where you might get your idea.
Hey, we're all about to learn in real life in the days to follow so we're just making conjectures at this point. That's what a forum is all about and what makes it interesting.
Michael could have killed Terri, all on his own, without any help. He didn't. He had plenty of help. Some of that help came from politicians, who were supposed to protect Terri, and the rest of us, from such tyranny. Some of that help came from unexpected sources, like Terri's bishop. None of those helpers killed Terri single-handedly. None of them could have saved her single-handedly. That doesn't change the fact that they are each responsible for their own actions, and deliberate inactions.
The controversy didn't die with Terri. Public policy has been affected by her murder. Others are being killed in similar fashion every day. And it usually (maybe always) comes back to references to Terri, because her situation encompassed just about every aspect of involuntary euthanasia. Many people have been saved because of the vocal opposition to involuntary euthanasia, that Terri's murder elicited.
Death by dehydration, accompanied by starvation, has become common practice in some places. But people are now speaking out against it. Quite often, patients are starved and dehydrated to death before they or their loved realize what's happening. Now, more people are aware ahead of time, and are preventing it from happening. They know about it because of pains in the ass like me, who won't shut up. As long as I continue to see positive results, I'll continue talking about it. And I'll continue speaking out against those who support the killing.
My sister-in-law died very recently, from cancer, while under hospice care. She told me she didn't want to be euthanized. I made it a point to let the hospice workers know that euthanasia would not be tolerated. I don't know whether or not they would have euthanized her if they thought they could get away with it. Maybe they wouldn't have even tried. But it's a little late to tell them after the fact. But that's what people used to do. They just assumed that hospice would provide palliative care until the end. Not any more. People are taking preventive measures ahead of time. Because they know.
No, not cologne! A little lemon juice behind the ear will do just fine. It cuts the fishy smell. Cologne will just mix with the fish, and make you smell french.
No, that's what makes it informative. It's the off-topic discussions about fish, showers, and cologne that make it interesting.
I do not, personally, think he was to blame in either case but the voters do Democrats and Republicans alike.
There are a lot of people who are looking at insurance rate increases and want to take it out on somebody and they are not all that logical in their thinking.
I do not think Gallagher did wrong in this case. His hands were tied....between a rock and a hard place, but a whole lot of people do.
He has a lot of negatives, but these should not be among them.
Hey, I'm glad you found my cologne "interesting".
All that talk makes scents. For me, a little dab of Hoppe's gun oil behind the ear knocks 'em dead.
I think Murphy used to work for McCain, so that is a turn off. But I'm still voting for Gallagher.
