52 percent of Israelis: IDF failed
Ynet ^ | August 14 2006 | Ilan Marciano

A Globes-Smith survey published on Monday showed that the majority of Israelis (52 percent) believe the IDF was unsuccessful in its Lebanon offensive, as opposed to 44 percent who believe the army did well.

According to the survey, 58 percent of the public believes Israel achieved few if any objectives in the war, up from 16 percent 11 days ago.

The survey showed that only 3 percent of Israelis believe that the country achieved most or all of its pre-war objectives, down from 33 percent a week ago.

According to the survey, were the elections held today Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s Kadima party would receive less than 20 mandates (as opposed to the 29 it received in the March elections), while Defense Minister Amir Peretz’s Labor party would receive only 12 mandates (as opposed to the 19 it obtained in the recent elections).

66 percent: Ceasefire agreement not good

Overall, 60 percent of those who voted for Kadima and Labor said they would not vote for them, with most becoming undecided voters at this time.

The picture emerging from the new survey is fundamentally different from the one prevalent during the month of the war in the North, where the public expressed its support for both the government and military – positions that can be characterized as "patriotic."

Only six percent of respondents said they thought the Security Council resolution that ended the fighting is good and achieves most of Israel's objections. Meanwhile, 66 percent believe the agreement is not good – only a quarter of those said this is the best agreement that can be obtained under the circumstances. Overall, 38 percent said the deal is not good but Israel had no choice but to accept it.

I don't want to say that the IDF failed but rather hope that the IDF is not finished!

The job is half done, anyone can see that. And the jihadists will take that as a great victory if things stop now.

Under their parlimentary system, what must take place for that to happen? Do they have to wait for an election, or can they oust Olmert with a vote-of-no-confidence? If the latter is the case, does BiBi have a chance?

IMHO, it was their politicians who failed...by not letting the IDF do the job the way it must be done.

But it is not over.

This cease fire is not an end or stop. Hezbollah has not disarmed or given up the hostages they took. They have not been pacified. They have been bloodied but will view the cease-fire as a victory of sorts, and will tout it as such and attract more fools to theior cause so that a repeat will be forthcoming, probably in the not too distant future.

Hopefully then, the IDF will be allowed to conduct complete warfare, with extreme prejudice, against these terrorists and anyone who supports, harbors or abetts them. That is what it is going to take.

How do they know, it is not over? There are 30,000 idf soldiers in Lebanon waiting for Hezbullah to break the cease fire (which they will).

Olmert is a Clinton like fool that tries to make everyone happy which ends up of course pissing everyone off.

Trying to make the Israeli people, the Arabs, Europe, and the US happy at the same time is impossible and trying to do so will piss everyone off.

The IDF did not fail. It was the way the pathetic politicians used them that caused failure. Shame on those who think that their soldiers failed them.

Note to Israel: The IDF didn't fail. Your politicians and the people who voted them into office did.

IDF did not fail. How could they fail when they were not allowed to do the job.

You need large numbers of boots on the ground to win wars unless you are willing to drop a nuke and that wasn't going to happen.

There is no way to wage war on the cheap as I believe the Pentagon and the military has learned in Iraq.

Unfortunately, that does appear to be the case. This is not good at all. Hezbollah is jumping up and down doing a victory dance. Israel is making a fatal mistake for their future well being.
