ya know- I use to tell my son to wash the dishes....

I would find them still dirty..

I would say- "son, I told you to wash the dishes"

His reply- "I did"

I'd say "no- you put them in soapy water, went through all the motions, but the dishes are still dirty. Hence- you did NOT wash the dishes."

I tell you what- I don't "fault" Rice...

There is no way to broker peace with someone who does not want peace.

Her task was impossible.

I find it insulting that we have "supported" a resolution that we would not accept ourselves....

and that we are being told that it is GOOD for Israel.

Not only is not good for Israel... it is not good for any freedom-loving people....

I'm not buying this "line" that if we just give them freedom then they'll quit being terrorists.

That was your original statement. You can back away from it all you want, but that was your post and your words are a complete fabrication of the administration's policy.

Now you're admitting the policy is that bringing democracy to the Middle East is actually PART of the policy in the ME and you think it's the wrong policy. THat's your opinion and you're entitled to it.

What you're not entitled to do is to make stuff up like saying the administration's policy is to hope terrorists will stop being terrorists if we bring democracy to their countries.

If you don't understand that lots of people in Arab countries are secular or Christian and hate the mullahs and don't support terrorism, then your lack of knowledge if your problem.

I haven't heard much about the kidnapped Israeli soldiers lately. Last I heard they were moved to Iran. Is that the latest? If so, then yeah, the diplomacy route isn't always terribly effective, at least in the short-term.

It would seem logical to shut down their propaganda machine you know. Starting with Al Jezeera.

LOL!

BY WHO?

Not anyone mentioned in the resolution....

If the French and Lebanese are the new troops assigned with the job- and they are saying they aren't doing it- then WHO is doing it?

I think we deserve to know....

the difference in Afghanistan and Iraq - was that the US was determined to pursue those campaigns to the end - the ultimatum's were backed up.

israel under Olmert, isn't.

Harry Truman couldn't be president today.

Truman and his bungling state department caused the Korean War and then didn't know how to end it

I'm not backing away from the statement. Our president has been telling us for sometime now that only freedom will change their hearts over there. Only freedom will end terrorism. Only freedom will give them opportunity to be better people etc etc.

It's the same ole line he's been saying for about 2 years now. I don't buy it. Sorry.

Uh, he said we are at war with Islamic Fascism... I would say that was a big correctamundo...

What? WHy are you writing that to me? I know that's what the president said and you were responding to a post I made about the press knowing very little about geopolitics.

I believe the Hezzies will use this as a time to regroup. The fighting will stop for now AS IRAN WANTED - Iran said the time is not now for the destruction of Israel but soon.

So apparently that is what we get. The fighting has stopped.

Well if you intend to have a mature democracy in Lebannon..... do you just tell them that there are certain people they can't vote for? Are we going to tell them that they can't vote for members of Hezbollah??

In many ways the situation in Lebanon is similar to that of Germany in the 1930s. Democracy says the Nazis (Hezzis) can run and people can vote for them. But of course the Nazis (Hezzis) aren't really interested in democracy.

The Lebanese are in a pickle at the moment. Either they outlaw the Hezzies and kick off another civil war, which will end up being suppressed by a well-armed international organization; or Lebanon don't outlaw them and end up getting occupied by Israel and/or some well-armed international organization.

Either way it puts pressure on the Hezzies, because they're not a majority in Lebanon. I think the Lebanese will end up outlawing them.

LOL!

well I hope you are right...

My faith has been solid til today....

only when I heard no one was dis-arming the Hezzies did I lose faith....

at some point- I guess common sense kicked in...

but I truly hope you are right and I am wrong...

I mean that sincerely...

re:Arab propaganda machine, we could at least anticipate the "victory" statements, the questions from the press that we stood back while the devastation was occurring and did nothing, etc, which we just heard asked of the Prez at State. can't we do this better? WHY don't we do this better? why give these killers one inch, verbally or geographically?

I think you need to calm down, quit ranting about stuff on which you don't have all of the information, and understand that President Bush is the best friend Israel has ever had in the presidency, according to none other than Benjamin Netenyahu.
