Assailing Behavior At Gay Pride Festival

For days, we have been hearing from the Union-Tribune and other local news outlets about a purported "hate crime" committed by punks who assaulted homosexual men during the recent Gay Pride Festival. But there was another hate crime committed that weekened that was not reported: The hateful moral assault committed by the homosexual community against San Diegans of all ages through its degrading and indecent "pride" celebration.

That community demonstrated its hatred of innocent children by allowing them to view a parade where adults engaged in public nudity and simulated sex acts. It displayed its hatred of impressionable teens by exposing them to (hardcore) gay pornography, sadomasochistic practices and devices, and same-sex behavior in the festival area.

It showed its hatred of Christians by giving an award to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, drag queens who dress up like nuns and mock the Catholic church. It exhibited its haterd toward all San Diegans by turning Balboa Park into a filthy blot on "America's Finest City." The politicians, law enforcement officials, churches, schools and businesses who participated are equally guilty of morally attacking San Diego's citizens.

While the physical assaults are deplorable and rightly to be condemned, it should not serve as a distraction from these hateful moral assaults. In the interest of journalistic fairness, the Union-Tribune and other local media should have exposed these degrading activities as much as they covered the physical assaults.

I'm a small government, libertarian-leaning Republican and therefore generally don't care what folks do with and to each other at home, what they eat, smoke, have under the hood of their cars, grow in their garden or have in their gun cabinet.

There are however generally accepted rules for social behavior and decency, and folks who wear their reprobate lifestyles on their sleeves shouldn't expect everyone else to embrace it in a positive manner.

Their purpose was to shock and offend. That is why the do this kind of thing. Such behavior, as reprehensible is it manifestly is, doesn't justify reprehensible behavior on our part in response. There are ways of expressing one's opposition to such public displays of immorality without, ourselves, resorting to not only immoral but illegal physical violence.

I don't believe in "hate crimes" per se. A crime is a crime is a crime, and anyone who physically assaults someone else is guilty of a crime and should be punished for that crime. It doesn't matter that there was an emotional provocation, nor that the motivation was "hateful." Most acts of violence ARE hateful, and I would certainly agree that the homosexual community's actions reflect an extreme disregard (i.e., "hate") for our society's standards of decency (as low and malformed as those standards have become!). That being said ... nothing justifies our physically attacking such people. In so-doing we simply lower ourselves to their level.

Why is anyone surprised when people are proud of their sexual activities and their pride demonstrates itself in sexual activities?

Any parents who take their children to such a parade should know better. Can you imagine a bondage pride parade that you would take your children to?

If they want the laws enforced they should abide by them.
Public nudity is a crime.
Sex acts in public is a crime.
Showing pornography in public is a crime.

They want, and get, a pass on enforcement of laws curtailing their aberrant behavior in public. Enforce laws against assault, sure, but let's also enforce all of the other laws the rest of us must abide by.
