I can read and speak just a little Welsh. 3 of my four grandparents were first generation Welsh-American. My mother's maiden name was Mwr (Moore). My grandmother on my father's side's maiden name was Powys (Powers).

My Great-great grandfather came to the US as a boy in 1860. When I was a tot, he used to hold me on his lap and sing "Men of Harlech" in Welsh. Couldn't understand a word but I clapped and cheered just the same.

Welsh and Gallic, now there's a couple of tough to learn languages! And I thought French was tough.

That is lovely that you can speak and read a little Welsh. It is the most difficult language.

So your family belongs to one of the (seven? ten? fifteen?) most commonly named Welsh surname families, lol, just like my family.

Ever try tracing your family tree in Wales? Believe it or not, I was able to trace back to the early 1800s without actually traveling there. That was sheer luck though.

I'm second generation Welsh. My Grandmother first moved to the US and stayed with her sister, then met my Grandfather later.

My Aunt can still sing most of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau in Cymru. I can sing just a few words here and there, lol!

And can the Welsh sing! There's a little Welsh church in Nelson, NY, near Syracuse. It's only open now in the summer for evening services but at one time it served a large group of local Welshmen/women. My favorite all time movie is "How Green is My Valley."
