In early May of this year, our dear friend Flyer was diagnosed with a brain tumor and lung cancer. The docs told him the tumor was not curable, but treatable. His understanding of the lung cancer was that it was minor (if there is such a thing).
Several weeks ago Flyer finished radiation. Tuesday was his first chemo treatment. Friday he was feeling bad, but did not want to go to the hospital. His brother finally called an ambulance Saturday morning to take him to the ER.
A few minutes ago Eaker, myself and Roger (Flyers brother) returned from the hospital. The news is not good.
The lung cancer has spread rapidly. Flyer only has use of one lung. He is on constant oxygen, and his breathing is still labored. Because of the cancer and tumor his immune system cannot keep up, now he has a major infection in his left leg. They are giving him antibiotics thru an IV
The doctors told the three of us that Flyer does not want any heroic measured taken. Right now his care instructions are to keep him hydrated and comfortable.
For those wondering why a prayer thread was not started earlier, it is because Flyer did not want one ~ several friends asked if they could start one, and he said no there are others who need prayers more that I.
It truly breaks my heart to type the following words, our good friend and a wonderful man will soon die. I am asking you to please pray for Flyers comfort.
Hay you two, I am very sad for your loss of such a good friend.
I will miss seeing the two of you in DC, but you have more important things to attend to.
I never met Flyer, but somehow I miss him too. His posts always reflected his good character.
RIP Flyer
Seventy pound Mason eating an eight pound puppy.
Puppies is full of protien.
I'd surely like to, but I gots visitors in town and need to go look at some property on Sunday.
Besides, I've taken extended road trips with Eaker... it's not an endeavor to be undertaken without a great deal of consideration! ;-)
Update / Reminder Ping
Hopefully everyone has sent a FReepmail to pax for directions and information.
The food list we have so far is, Gunner is bringing meat to cook, he will have help from NYTexan; I am bringing a big ole pot of red beans and cole slaw; and pax has threatened to burn some kind of dessert.
If you feel like bringing some food, please post it here so we will all know what to look forward to eating.
Pax has set the time for folks to start showing up, but I forgot when that will be. If we all talk nice to her I am sure she will inform us.
I will be flying in, but when I get with NYTexan, who will pick me up at the airport, I will ask him to take me somewhere to buy something to help out. Just let me know what is needed most. About how many people are expected to be there? We also need directions to your house from Hobby Airport...don't we NYT? Or maybe you have already told him in FM. If so.....never mind! :D
Hey! Threatened? Threatened? How could you forget that it was a promise!?
;-)
We decided on 10:00 a.m. for preparation and 11:00 for "official" start-up time. However, everyone is invited to show up at 10:00, whether they are working or not. We'll make the most of our day together.
Howdy, Big Brother! Haven't seen you in forever it seems! That would be a good thing, buying ready-made stuff. We'll go to the store before finding our way to the BBQ site.
Mom...if you have any special requests..just let us know and it's yours (within reason, of course! :D )
You'll have me at dinner time...and I'll be starved by the time you show up to get me. I am really looking forward to this...except for the occasion for it being so sad. =\
Sadly, I cannot make dinner Friday night ~ ~ that is volleyball night, TheGirl & I normally don't get home until around 8:00 pm-ish. You guys are welcome to come watch the game if'n ya want to. Our concession stand sells some really great chili-cheese nachos.
*headslap* How could I forget you promised to burn dessert. ;-)
Thanks, but I was thinkin' of good Tex-Mex. If ya have any recomendations for a good place near Hobby Airport, please advise!
I don't know nuthin about the Hobby airport area. There is a really good Tex-Mex place near TheCompound.
I will bring some dessert!
(Gettin' excited)
I hate myself for not coming here as often as I used to; I hate all of you for not pinging me to this thread.
Flyer was a good man. We did our share of Freepin', and the times I did in Houstontown he was right there with me.
I don't think I have to tell you I will be thinking of him a lot today.
Please ping the usual suspects to this post, Xenalyte, will you? Much thanks.
Somewhere Flyer and Dix are talking about old times.
Oh, Matt, I'm sorry. I thought surely you'd found out by now.
Hey guys, who did I miss on the ping?
(Flyer, Dix, and TexasCowboy are all hangin' out laughing at Kinky, I bet.)
Needing a head count and food list ping.
Count LUV W in...and if you haven't heard from him...NYTexan.
Put me down for a head count, and I can help cook.
I will need a street address to hook up with you all.
Im sorry Im so disorganised as of late
