I have to figure they expected to drop out of sight and start lives in the US. The question is whether they were coming here to work or wage jihad.

No way! I didn't realize that we had a terrorist cell here in Richmond (thought that was up north in Fairfax). First they catch the DC sniper making phonecalls from here, now the totally-not-connected-to-terrorism-(but-be-really-careful-approaching-them!) "students" here. Things that make you go "hmmm"...

These guy's real mistake was disappearing before attending the class. That lead the Montana University to notify the authorities. If they had waited and vanished on the way out, would anyone have noticed?
