NEW YORK -- The United States is losing the war in Iraq; more specifically, Philadelphia is. This war is at home, in the city's 12th Police District, where shootings have almost doubled over the past year and residents have spray-painted "IRAQ" in huge letters on abandoned buildings to mark the devastation.
It is a story being repeated up and down the East Coast and across the nation. In Boston, where the homicide rate is soaring, Analicia Perry , a 20-year-old mother, was shot and killed several weeks ago -- while visiting the street shrine marking the site of her brother's death on the same date four years earlier. Last Tuesday, Orlando's homicide count for this year reached 37, surpassing the city's previous annual high of 36 in 1982. And in Washington, D.C., where 14 people were killed in the first 12 days of July, Police Chief Charles H. Ramsey declared a state of emergency.
Not long ago, the United States was declaring "mission accomplished" on crime: Homicide rates were plunging, the crack epidemic was over, the broken windows were fixed. Now, preliminary FBI statistics show that homicides rose nearly 5 percent in 2005, and news from around the country suggests that 2006 is looking worse. Our many Iraqs at home are making it clear that the self-congratulation was premature. In reality, Americans were lulled into complacency about violent crime. And two new factors have emerged: Some of the law enforcement tactics used to fight crime in recent years damaged the social fabric in many communities and contributed to increased crime. More important has been the spread of a virulent thug ethos -- an obsession with "respect" that has made killing a legitimate response to the most minor snubs and slights. In parts of the District's Anacostia...

Well, gee, I am all for moving in American troops into cities on the East Coast. Is that what the want?
BINGO!
It looked like a war zone. Burnt out buildings, hulks of cars littering the streets.
Yes, and the problem is sure easy to see in Minneapolis, where there have already been 40 murders this year. The current Mayor is useless, and doesn't seem to have clue one about what to do about it.
The MPD doesn't even have a gang task force. Stupid!
And you can look forward to much more of this. The welfare gravy train is drying up. The slackers will have to work or be cut off with the new rules from Congress that passed this year. Many other jurisdictions are cutting welfare to single adults who refuse to work. (Except San Francisco, of course, where one can stay on General Assistance forever with a "work" requirement of 7 hours per week. Ain't that rough!)
Face it - the cities are over. More and more mainstream middle class people are fleeing to the burbs. As this continues, state legislatures will be less likely to give endless cash to "urban problems" and "job training" that never works and does no good.
My advice for law-abiding folks: get out of Dodge. It's going to get much worse, more violent, and more vicious. As welfare ends, and with more and more legal and illegal immigrants who will actually WORK, those who will not WORK will find themselves squeezed even more. "Racial tensions" and "urban unrest" will get much worse.
Get out when you can. Learn to handle a gun. It's up to you.
Quagmire...awk...sputter...quagmire!...Immediate withdrawl of the USA from Newark, Philly, Oakland...
Respect for Third World cultures...sputter...Mandatory 90% taxes to fund obligatory Madrassas across the USA.
Sob...sob....whimper...Why do they hate us?...Lock up anybody with an income > $30,000/year until Veganism becomes the law of the land.
How am I doing on the Moonbat forecast-o-meter?
Scary, U. You're sounding like *one of 'em*. (((grin)))
More Sugar!!!
Maybe some of these mayors could learn lessons from Rudy.
Well we had them until those subversives at Commie Martyr High stole it!
Of course, none of this is related to the increasing second generation Muslim immigrant population coming of age as well as the growing rolls of freaky groups such as the NOI, nor the exploding "undocumented worker" population.
You still can't walk in SF without stepping on a filthy bum.
